Lots to be Happy About

This is my first episode after COVID, and there is quite a bit to be happy about. A marriage equality bill has been passed an awaits the President's signature. Brittany Griner is on her way home today! The mid-terms are mostly a win for Democrats after Raphel Warnock was reelected. Gas prices are down and hopefully inflation follows! Radicals, Radicals, Radicals!

In this episode, I talk about the scare term "Radicals", and how it played into the midterms as well as the pollical climate. Just because people have far left or right views doesn't mean they are radicals. It means they have a view that isn't common, but isn't very extreme. However, if you listen to the fear mongering, these far leaning individuals are radical extremist. Back From Time Off

Hello, everyone! I am back from some time off. I was not expecting to take that much time, and I am sorry about doing so unannounced. Between me losing my voice after attending a professional sports event and not much going on in US politics due to the midterms, I let one week turn into three. Biden's Cannabis Announcement

In this episode, I talk about Biden's cannabis announcement. The announcement is a step in the right direction, but more will need to be done to legalize cannabis. In Texas, Governor Abbot announced there will be no expunging of cannabis crimes in the state. This is not a surprise coming from the Republican Governor. Thank you for listening to The Jim Policast. In this episode, I talk about the quiet quitting trend. The trend is miss named because people are just working their job description. DeSantis and the Migrants

In this episode, I talk about DeSantis and the 48 migrants in more detail. As it turns out, there were pamphlets used to lure the migrants away from the facility. This makes an already tragic situation even more tragic. The migrants from Central and Sount America are headed our way for a number of reasons. One of the main reasons being the violence of the drug cartels. The US can cut down on the number of migrants by taking money from the pockets of the cartels. GOP Midterm Strategy?

In this episode, I talk about GOP strategy that could blow up in their faces. The federal abortion ban that was introduced by Lindsey Graham is not going to work out well. The Trump Documents

In this episode, I talk about the documents that were taken from Mar-A- Lago. A judge ordered an itemized list each box that was taken from the Trump resort location. The number of documents that Donald had would have easily landed anyone else in prison. I break down the numbers for the documents seized and what each classification means. Student Loan Forgiveness

In this episode, I talk about Biden's student loan forgiveness program. I also talk about the Republican arguments against the program. Many of them are weak, but one does stick out. How does this apply to me? Many Americans don't go to college and did not get any of that debt. Why should they help pay it off? I think forgiving student loan debt is the start of this country truly investing in education. This means all kinds of educations that don't involve a 4-year university. That does appeal to more Americans that did not go to a university but opted for trade jobs. Help everyone get as much education as the want and as they're capable of is important. Inflation Reduction Act

In this episode, I talk about the Inflation Reduction Act and the Republican spin against it. The Inflation Reduction Act will do a number of positive things, like add funding to the IRS and cap out of pocket expenses on prescriptions for Medicare. The Republicans will have you think the IRS is coming for you and they reduced your Medicare benefits. None of that is true. Listen to this episode to find the anti Republican spin. Brittney Griner

In this episode, I talk about Brittney Griner and why she should be released. I also discuss two arguments I had against letting her out. In this episode, I talk about Oberfell and if SCOTUS with overturn the case. Democrats are trying to introduce legislation that will codify Oberfell. However, Republicans are against the bill, saying it's a waste of time and SCOTUS will not touch the case. I think Republicans are right, but missing context. SCOTUS will not touch the case, yet. In this episode, I have to issue a few retractions. I predicted that the Supreme Court would not overturn Roe and they did. I also said that overturning Roe would not help Republicans, and Nate Silver showed me I was wrong on that. The big lie is prominent in the document, as Texas Republicans do not believe that Joe Biden is the legitimate President. Fascist Democracy

In this episode, I talk about a Tic Tok trend starting with what's a conspiracy theory you 1000% believe in. I believe the US is a Fascist Democracy and that's why our government benefits the wealthy as much as it does. Wealth distribution in this country is slanted to the top so much that it goes beyond a model Oligarchy. Student Loan Debt

In this episode, I talk about student load debt and how forgiving it will be a huge benefit. It will be a tough sell to the working class, but they will be on board. In this episode, I talk about the Supreme Court, and their leaked document. Overturning Roe V Wade is not popular with the American people. This will not work out for Republicans like they think, and this can fuel a larger voter turnout for the next two elections at minimum. Democrats have an uphill battle to codify Roe. In this episode, I talk about inflation, and its impact on households across the US. The inflation is hitting many household budgets hard, including mine. We are even having issues getting a home due to Federal Reserve interest rate increases. I am glad to see that consumer confidence is still high. Cannabis Legalization

In this episode, I talk about cannabis legalization. It has so many upsides that it's hard to believe that cannabis is still illegal. There are many positives for our Country's policy and tax revenue. Why is cannabis still illegal? The same reason it was always illegal, people would lose a lot of money if cannabis was legal. In this episode, I talk about the migrant buses being sent from Texas to Washington D.C. This is another political stunt, in a line of many, from Texas Governor Greg Abbott. I think this is a cover for his own failure at the border. Abbott announced policy that ordered DPS to search commercial vehicles at the border. However, this policy caused slowdowns at the border, and was stopped at the busiest crossing due to criticism. Some of the criticism coming from his own party as Texas Ag Commissioner spoke out against the additional searches. Thank you for listening to The Jim Policast! On this podcast, we say gay! The Florida law is just another example of the Republicans taking care of issues what don't exist. They can't do much other than address non-issues and drum up fear. Be an ally and say gay! There is nothing wrong with people trying to live a life that makes them happy. Also, NO ONE IS GROOMING YOUR CHILD!! No one cares enough to groom your child. Applebee's and Labor

In this episode, I talk about the email that was leaked from Applebee's. A regional manager for the chain wrote an email outlining how to use current economic woes to get people working longer hours for low pay. This is not a good look for the chain, but also not a good look for our economy as a whole. The restaurant industry is not the only one exploiting their labor. Does exploiting labor really make that much money? Wouldn't it be better if more people had more money to spend? Sadly, exploiting labor does make a lot of money. Ketanji Brown Jackson

In this episode, I talk about the Senate confirmation hearing of Ketanji Brown Jackson. The Republicans were very harsh to her in response to both Biden saying he would nominate a woman of color and Brett Kavanaugh's hearing. All of the Republican questioning was very partisan and attacked her on many things. As Americans, we should be proud of Ketanji's nomination. This episode marks 1 year of The Jim Policast! Thank you so much for listening! I also talk about Brandon Brown, the NASCAR driver who's name is being used in the phrase Let's go Brandon. Brandon does not need his career ruined so people can take a pot shot at the president. This seems right in line with the current political discourse in the US. In this episode, I talk about what is currently going on with Russia's on-going invasion of Ukraine. It is still not going as planned and it will drag on as long as Putin's ego allows it. The US and other countries are seeing really high gas prices. The war is being blamed, and that could account for Europe's rising prices, but not the ones here in the US. Russia only accounts for 8% of US oil imports. That doesn't seem like enough of a supply hit to make that much of a difference in price. The Transgender "Issue"

In this episode, I talk about the Transgender "Issue", or rather how people are not an issue. The policy pushed against trans people, trans youth in particular, is the result of the GOP not having much to contribute policy wise. The GOP has to pass these bills in places like Texas and Iowa to gain points with their voters. Meanwhile, the states have a long list of other pressing issues that need to be addressed. In this episode, I talk about the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Russia. I did not want to record an episode too early on this war because it was not very optimistic. The Ukrainians have put up much more of a fight than the Russians anticipated, and there are reports of possible peace talks. Redlining Still Harms

In this episode, I talk about the practice of redlining and how it still harms minority communities today. There are a number of people who say that racism in this county is over, and Dr. King is the person who ended it. The Fair Housing Act and The Voting Rights Act of 1968 were big blows to institutionalized racism. However, it was far from the end as the Voting Rights act was gutted, and we have gerrymandering. When you look at housing based on race, you will see that redlining didn't go far either. We have a long fight to end racism and make this an equitable country for all. The RNC Censure

In this episode, I talk about the RNC's censure of Cheney and Kinzinger. This is not a surprise, the Republicans are not going to acknowledge that Jan 6 was an attempt to over through the government. Mich McConnell speaking out against the censure will do little to change the party. What is next if the Republican party degrades due to this division and needs to be replaced? In this episode, I'll talk about Joe Rogan and Spotify. Joe is back in the news for spreading misinformation about the pandemic. Spotify, the company that syndicates Joe's podcast, has done nothing to stop Joe from spreading the misinformation. In response, a few recording artists have pulled their music from Spotify. Stephen's Retirement

In this episode, I talk about the retirement of Justice Stephen Breyer. Does this pick help the Biden Administration? No, it does not. The Supreme Court will still be 6 to 3 conservative and will rule against most everything passed by Biden and Congressional Democrats. Could it be Worse Than Abbott?

In this episode, I talk about the primary race that Governor Greg Abbot faces. His two opponents are more extreme right than he is. Don Huffines and Allen West are worse, and I want Abbott to win. Texas would elect someone like Huffines or West if they had the opportunity. I don't think anything is going to prevent Abbott from winning because Beto is running as the Democrat, and the two primary opponents are not going to win. Not Over This Yet

In this episode, I talk about what happened to a family member of mine when they went to the hospital. Needless to say, it was not good, but my family member is out of the hospital. Due to COVID overwhelming the hospitals, my family member did not get the care they should have. Not getting the vaccine has consequences for people you don't even know. Can Gerrymandering Be Stopped?

In this episode, I talk about the Justice Department's lawsuit against Texas and the newly drawn district maps. The state of Texas gerrymandered the map so bad they went from 12 competitive house districts, down to 1. This cannot be blamed on the Biden administration or Congressional Democrats. Goals Over Promises

In the 50th episode of The Jim Policast, I talk about campaign goals rather than promises. We need elected officials to run realistic campaigns, and that will help gain trust in our government again. Promises do not give any leeway for failure, and failure will happen. When a promise isn't kept, the person becomes a liar. In this episode, I talk about Bro Vax, the movement of men who think fighting the virus when they get it manly, but getting the COVID vaccine is not. There is more to being a man than fighting things, normally protection of the group is the primary function of the alpha. So why the resistance to getting the vaccine? Abbott's New Order

In this episode, I talk about Texas Governor Greg Abbott's new order banning COVID vaccine mandates. My son was about to be withdrawn from school in Texas because he was missing a different vaccine. If schools are already enforcing vaccine mandates, what's another one? It just goes to show, that Greg is using the vaccine to be my Trumpian and get re-elected. Democrat Infighting

In this episode, I talk about the Democrats getting in their own way. Two "centrist" Democrats keep holding the whole agenda hostage. If the Democrats want to win more often, then they need to embrace the more liberal in the party, and not call them extremists. The Bernie Sanders movement is still going. Metal Detectors and Voter ID Laws

In this episode, I talk about metal detectors and voter ID laws. They don't appear to be racist on the surface. To me and many other, they can even seem common sense. However, when you look at how recourses are allocated, it becomes racist. Only putting metal detectors in big school and taking ID locations out of metro areas only harms minority communities. Patriot Posturing

In this episode I talk about patriot posturing. That's using symbolism to seem like a patriot when your actions show otherwise. To be a patriot now takes getting a vaccine and wearing a mask. It is very hard to take someone who doesn't wear a mask or get the vaccine as a serious patriot. Wearing a mask and getting a vaccine will help prevent the spread of COVID. Is it 100%? COVID Episode Clarification

This isn't a full episode, but I need to clear up my incorrect use of the term "breakthrough" in The COVID Vaccine episode. I was trying to convey how a COVID virus that renders the vaccine useless would set us back to square one. Untaught Race Massacres (Part 2)

This is part two of my race massacre series, and I bring it full circle to what is going on today with voter suppression. Many of the earliest race massacres were meant to intimate African-American voters, and stop the rising power of African-Americans in the reconstruction south. It is important that we all fight the new voter laws and preserve the right to vote. The lessons taught by these race massacres show just how important voting is to all Americans, especially African Americans.

The 1836 Project

In this episode I talk about Texas's project 1836. A law passed by Governor Abbott that will teach a "Patriotic" Texas history. The project is in response to the 1619 project and is an effort to prevent critical race theory from being taught in Texas. In this episode I talk about the white box. A name I give to rural white isolation and lack of race education. I come from a rural town and the race history I learned stopped at the end of the Civil Rights movement. Even the history that was taught missed a lot of very important information. Couple that with American exceptionalism, and you get a group of people convinced that everything is fine now. It also doesn't help that empathy is hard to achieve. I'm Not Worried About Woke

In this episode I talk about Joe Rogan's recent statements that the straight white male voices will be silenced. I am a straight white male and I am not worried about being silenced by woke culture. I have three concepts that I use to help me stay out of the negative light. The concepts are pretty easy to use, and that's why I think Joe is wrong on this one.

In this episode I talk about how the Republican party ousted Liz Cheney from her leadership position. This tells me the Donald has control over the party, at least for now. This further proves that the GOP may be splitting, but will be fine overall. I hope that at some point, everyone stops pushing or believing in Trump's big lie.

Was I Wrong About the GOP?

In this episode I talk about the NYT news of 100 or more prominent Republicans threatening to form a third party. I said in a previous episode that the GOP was fine despite the major rift between Trump supporters and moderate Republicans. Could I be wrong about that given the news? I don't think so. Biden's Tax Plan

In this episode I discuss why raising tax revenue is important. Our civilization is very complex, and it takes longer for people to contribute. People need more time and education to truly make an impact. People from construction workers to research scientist hold jobs that were never heard of a hundred years ago. Chauvin Verdict

This is my reaction to the live verdict of Derick Chauvin. Live feed provided by Now This Daily. The day was won, and justice was served for George Floyd. We can breath a little that a civil war was avoided, but the fight against racial injustice in this country is not over. However, this is a huge victory and a step in the right direction. Hope is alive, it's just a fight, and the people will win. Please keep in mind this was recorded live and totally unedited.

Providing Context in Chants

In this episode I offer suggestions on how to add more context for the "Defund the Police" and "All Men are Trash" chants. I want to make sure people know that I am only offering suggestions and I by no means think either movement is wrong. I feel that the two chants give people ways out because of the lack of context.
