CHARITY CEO: Karen Burgess
Play • 51 min

Meet Karen Burgess, CEO of the charity Petals which stands for Pregnancy Expectations Trauma and Loss Society. Karen set up the charity in 2011 after funding was withdrawn from the counselling service she ran in the maternity ward of Addenbrooke's hospital in Cambridge, providing specialist counselling work for bereaved parents. Knowing there was a crucial need for this support, she made the decision to start her own charity which is now in a number of UK hospitals and looking to further expand. Listen to find out how she took the idea and made it a reality, setting up a charity, why this service is so vital and plans to extend the offer to help more people across the UK.
