Part 3 of 4 of the special series: Elevating Voices of Color
Today's talk is with Michelle West, an actress and fitness motivator. We talk about the unrealistic expectations of black bodies for black dancers, especially women, in a white dance world, tips and tricks for getting into running, especially as gyms remain closed during quarantine, and how we as white people and non-black POCs can speak up in artistic spaces for our black friends, coworkers, and castmates, and especially how microaggressions can prevent these spaces from being safe.
We also talk about Michelle’s new YouTube channel, where she shows up with everything from running tips to recipes to workouts. Her work is amazingly generous, and it’s thrilling to hear about how she’s paying it forward on her channel and being a face for black women in fitness. Be sure to check her out!
