Paddleboards, Beach Cleans & Finding Joy - Jo Moseley
Play • 24 min

In this week's episode, I speak to Jo Moseley of Healthy Happy 50. I first discovered Jo on Instagram a few months after setting up my own business. I instantly connected with her love of everyday adventures, whether that was out on her paddle board or picking up litter on her daily walks and runs. But even more than that, it was impossible not to be swept up her infectious joy and gratitude when doing these activities, as well as her openness in talking about the challenges she has faced and her message that it is never too late to start.

Jo is the Mum of two sons living on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. In 2013, she found herself sobbing in the biscuit aisle of her local Tesco’s, overwhelmed, anxious and desperate for a good night’s sleep. A friend lent her an old rowing machine suggesting regular exercise might help her sleep. It did & she has not looked back. In 2014, she rowed a million metres & marathon for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of her Mum.

Last summer, Jo was the first woman to stand up paddleboard 162 miles coast to coast along the Leeds Liverpool Canal, picking you litter & fundraising for The Wave Project & 2 MinuteBeachClean charity. As a freelance aqua fit instructor, writer & festival speaker alongside her “day job”, she is passionate about sharing the joy of movement for our physical, mental & emotional wellbeing and for developing a kinder relationship with our bodies.

She is a huge advocate for tiny adventures & finding joy in the every day - eg wild swimming, plogging (running & picking up litter). During quarantine she climbed Everest in a Month in her backyard, raising money for her local foodbank.

Her short award winning adventure films, self taught & made on her iPhone, have been screened at adventure festivals. A film about her coast to coast adventure will be released this autumn.
