Ordinary Vegan Podcast #96-Vegan Swaps & Recipes for Animal Products
Are you thinking of adding more plants to your diet in 2021? Today's podcast shares some easy vegan swaps to ease the transition. Finding substitutions for animal products is perhaps the most difficult part of vegan cooking. But it can also be the healthiest thing you can do. For example, when you switch one tablespoon of aquafaba for one egg, you cut out 5 grams of fat and 75 calories. So if you are looking for equally delicious and healthy vegan swaps, look no further. Podcast #96 will introduce you to many vegan swaps and recipes along with: * Healthy Eating Checklist * Oil Substitutes * Best Vegan Banana Bread: Oil-Free & Super Moist * Whipped Cream and Meringue * Egg Replacements * Quick Black Bean Veggie Burgers (recipe below) * The Best Vegan Binding Agents * Cream and Sauce Substitutes * Sunflower Pasta Alfredo Sauce (recipe below) * Gelatin Precautions I hope today's simple vegan swaps helps your transition to a plant-based diet. For recipes and inspiration, please follow me on Instagram and Facebook. You can purchase my vegan, organic line of CBD products from hemp on my website. The National Institutes of Health released a study that "revealed very high rates of clinically significant insomnia along with more stress, anxiety, and depression since the Covid-19 pandemic." All-natural CBD from hemp can enhance the serotonin receptors. Low serotonin levels are commonly associated with people who have depression and anxiety. Anxiety is a key factor behind insomnia. I hope my CBD can help you get a good night's sleep. Additionally, you can find my cookbook "The Easy 5 Ingredient Vegan Cookbook" HERE. I would also like to thank Forager for sponsoring this podcast. Don't forget to go to Foragerproject.com/cultivatehealth for your FREE cup of yogurt. Please stay safe and stay well.

Animal Protection Laws with Camille Labchuk and Jessica Scott-Reid - PTP397
In this episode of The Plant Trainers Podcast, we talk with Camille Labchuck and Jessica Scott-Reid all about animal protection laws in North America. If you have ever wondered if there are laws protecting wildlife, livestock, or even your pets, this is the podcast for you. We talk about the work Camille did with Animal Justice to “Free Willie” and what they are working on now. They both talk to us about transportation laws, fur farming, Ag Gag laws, adopting animals and so much more. Camille Labchuk is an animal rights lawyer and executive director of Animal Justice—Canada’s only animal law advocacy organization. Under her leadership, Animal Justice fights legal cases in courtrooms across the country, works to pass groundbreaking new laws, and ensures industries are held accountable for illegal animal cruelty. Camille has litigated to advance animals’ legal interests at all levels of court, including before the Supreme Court of Canada. She regularly testifies before legislative committees, and was instrumental in passing a precedent-setting national ban on whale and dolphin captivity in 2019. She has filed false advertising complaints against companies making misleading humane claims; documented Canada’s commercial seal slaughter; and exposed hidden suffering behind the closed doors of farms and zoos through undercover investigations. Camille also regularly defends and protects the rights of animal advocates. Camille is a frequent lecturer on animal law, co-host of the Paw & Order podcast, and a regular contributor to national publications like the Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star. Jessica Scott-Reid is a journalist and animal advocate. She covers animal and vegan topics for media across Canada and beyond, including The Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, Winnipeg Free Press, Sentient Media, Planet Friendly News, and Tenderly Magazine. 250: Owing parents,Child's junk affects Mom's health,Too sensitive?, Half effort
In today's episode, Dr. Lisle discusses: 1. How much do you owe your parents as they age? My father is very disagreeable and I hate being around him. As my father ages, he will need me to care for him more but I would like to move out of state. He does not have any savings to afford quality nursing home care. Do I need to take him with me because there would be no one else here to care for him? 2. I’m having environment issues and I’m really stuck as to what to do about it. I have a 36 year old special needs daughter.  Every chance I get, I sneak into her room and grab some cookies, or candy or whatever else she has stashed in there away from Mom. It’s really hindering my progress. 3. I am easily thrown off by simple things at work or in my personal life- and I'm a crier. My mom and I had a disagreement recently and I didn't get over it for over an hour and kept involuntarily crying because I was so upset that I disappointed her. I don't re-calibrate quickly from negative feedback and I'd like to learn how to get better at it. Maybe I'm too darn sensitive. 4. I am very happy with my life, have a dream job, good performance reviews, good pay and I so I should be happy. But I know that I'm not fully applying myself at work and I that I'm cruising at 50% effort. As as result I feel constant guilt for slacking off at work, and yet I cannot seem to force myself to work harder. The boss is happy, and unless there is an immediate and heavy deadline I don't feel motivated. Can you talk about this phenomenon please?

Ep. 9: Dr. Reshma Shah - Food and Family
Last week, we spoke with registered dietitian and author, Brenda Davis, about her latest work called, Nourish: The Definitive Plant-Based Nutrition Guide for Families--With Tips & Recipes for Bringing Health, Joy, & Connection to Your Dinner Table. This week, we continue with part two of this important topic with co-author, Dr. Reshma Shah. Dr. Shah is a board-certified pediatrician, mother, plant-based home-cook, teacher, and student. She has nearly two decades of experience caring for children and families, and currently sees patients at the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, and serves as an affiliate clinical instructor at Stanford University School of Medicine. We know it’s hard to bring an entire family on board the plant-based journey with you because there is a real fear around community, judgment, and nutrition requirements. We also know that you want what’s best for your families and it’s time we have positive conversations around food — with your doctors, friends, and especially your family. Dr. Shah reveals some of the tools, resources, and recipes from the book that will bring joy, abundance, and nutrition back to the family table. It will also instill confidence in knowing that you’re making powerful and positive decisions for the benefit of your entire family for years to come. What should someone with FH eat if they also have prediabetes? | Masterjohn Q&A Files #208
Question: What should someone with FH eat if they also have prediabetes? So first of all, it's a separable component of the diet so you need a low-saturated fat, low-cholesterol diet without necessarily eating a low-fat diet. Then second of all, the effect of that on blood lipids is dependent on the healthfulness of your insulin pathway. And so over time, that's something where you can play the balance between those two things and as you improve your blood glucose handling, you can fit in more carbohydrates to have a fuller dietary effect. For managing blood glucose, and I don't think it's a good idea to condemn all carbohydrates as a means of managing that. I think the best thing would be to get a continuous glucose monitor or a regular glucose monitor. If you're using a regular glucose monitor, use 30 minute, one hour, two hour, three hour, four hour time intervals after a meal and collect a baseline before a meal and look at how do different starches that you don't have an immunological response to... so you don't have to test grains because you don't tolerate them, but other foods that are rich in starches, whether it's carrots, or potatoes, or sweet potatoes, or whatever it is.
