Play • 1 hr 55 min

On this episode of the show I'm joined by NYC Casting Director Karlee Fomalont. She began her career at CBS Primetime NY and ABC Primetime NY, where she cut her teeth working on numerous pilots. She then transitioned into independent casting, working on projects such as Steven Spielberg's acclaimed drama "The Post," for which her team was nominated for an Artios Award for Outstanding Achievement in Casting, and "The Get Down," Baz Luhrmann's ambitious Netflix series. In NY independent casting, she has worked with a number of top casting directors in the city, and currently is the Associate at Rori Bergman Casting where she has been for 5 years, working on major studio feature films, independent films, cable and multiple streaming TV shows. She also works independently casting many short films and features.

On the show we talk about:

  • Her dance background and start in musical theatre that then led to her finding her home in casting.
  • Advice for when auditioning for a pilot Vs a long standing show.
  • The issue with the "make a bold choice" statement and how to really interpret it.
  • The art of self-taping, why it is more difficult than in person auditions and how to get good at it.
  • What casting looks for in your self-tape audition.
  • The experience of casting Spielberg's "The Post".
