My guest today is Emmie who is originally from Zimbabwe but now living and studying at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa. In this episode, we learn Emmie has always been curious and fell in love with the field of chemistry during her practical in high school. Emmie completed her undergrad in Zimbabwe came to South Africa to further her studies for her Masters and now PhD. Her research focuses on the synergy between experimental and computational chemistry in understanding the structure and redox reactivity of transition metal complexes. As an award-winning science communication speaker, she eloquently tells us more about this work and its importance. In fact, she tells us more about how she was bestowed with this prestigious title and her love for science engagement initiatives. Lastly, we discuss how Emmie navigates being a black female international student in South Africa and specifically at her institution. Stay tuned to find out about all this and so much more!
