Play • 47 min

My guest today is Dr. Asma Bashir, Ugandan-American, currently a postdoc fellow in Scotland. She's traveled a lot in her life. Being born from Ugandan parents in America, she's also lived in Kenya, Zimbabwe, Qatar, Canada, and England. In this episode, we learn how living in different countries played a role in her personal development and world views. Secondly, she admits that she never intended to be in STEM, but some very pivotal people made science an option to her by presenting ideas that excited her to learn further. Asma recently completed her PhD in neuroscience at the University of British Columbia, Canada. She tells us about that research, then explains her Post-doc research that she started this year. This research focuses on working towards understanding blood vessels and their specialised cells within the brain. Lastly, we discuss the podcast she started last year called Her Royal Science Podcast. She explains why she started the podcast and some of the guests who are featured. Find out about this and so much more!
