Talks! Episode 84 - Gary Ramsey
This week, Gary Ramsey paid a visit to the GGH Studio to talk about his nearly 50 years of playing music. Gary is one of a kind and a real hidden gem in the music scene, getting his inspiration by seeing Zeppelin in his teens, cutting his teeth on metal, moving to California and then walking back to North Carolina, a detour in prison after he got back, and America's Got Talent audition, and so many other stories, some of which you aren't gonna believe! Heck, I'm not sure Gary even believes them all! One of the more unique individuals I know and someone who is truly passionate about music, so whether you know him or not, you're sure to be entertained by this one!

Talks! Episode 69 - Ahvid Harris
Gabba Gabba Huh? is back?! Yes! At least this week! After this, it may (or may not) be next year before I get the ball really rolling again. Hear a little bit about that up front, but I was having microphone issues (causing some audio issues throughout), so some of what I had to say never made it, but you'll get the idea! This week's guest is Ahvid Harris, a local self-described impressionist, with poetry being the main subject. A little bit of a departure, but still local, still the arts, and still DIY. What you'll get here is two recent friends getting a chance to know each other a little bit more and talk about how our crafts are actually quite similar. Talks! Episode 64 - Otis Hughes (Animal Bag/M4 Messenger/The Mystery Plan/Skynoceros)
This week I took a trip for coffee and then sat down with Otis Hughes to talk about his history playing in such bands as Animal Bag, M4 Messenger, Poor Blue, Skynoceros, The Mystery Plan, Gideon Smith & The Dixie Damned, Overlord, and more, as well as a new, not-yet-named band to debut soon! We talk a lot about being in LA at the end of the eighties, how sometimes a recording deal ends because of new bosses, the influence of Spinal Tap, the loss of bandmates, and paying tribute to them by still playing the songs from time to time. This is part two of my Animal Bag series, so look for part three later in the summer when I get Luke and Otis together as they prepare for an upcoming acoustic Animal Bag (or "Half Bag") show in Shelby!

Talks! Episode 63 - Mercury Dimes
This week I drove out to the cut to interview Laura, Nathan, and Wes of Mercury Dimes! Surrounded by their beautiful farm, along with a barn full of roosters, we sat on their porch and talked about everything from free shows, otc drugs, a band called MILF, the joys of seltzer water, making noise, and of course we talked about their musical journey to becoming Mercury Dimes. We get some rain on the tin roof, and there was some important stuff that I had to keep in, but it only lasts for a few minutes before we break and come back to less background noise! Talks! Episode 57 - Luke Edwards (Animal Bag/Tater/Grassabillies)
This week, I finally sat down with Luke Edwards, from such bands as Animal Bag, Tater, Grassabillies, and currently playing in Dangerous Ways and a new Motörhead tribute band, called Killed By Death! This episode is essential listening for anyone who ever dreamed of signing a record deal, being on MTV, or just living as a working musician, as Luke has had experience in all those areas. Anyone from Cleveland County will appreciate all the local references, as we take a walk down memory lane of Shelby in the eighties. I've known of Luke since I was a teenager when he worked at Endless Summer at the Cleveland Mall in Shelby, and I vividly remember coming home from school one day and seeing Animal Bag's video for Everybody on MTV and immediately calling my best friends to tell them about it, so this episode is one I've been wanting to do for a while!

Talks! Episode 33 - Cap Nunn (The Fill Ins)
On the last Talks! episode for the year (listen to the podcast to find out more!), I talk to Cap Nunn, bassist for The Fill Ins, guitarist for SuperJett, and now a solo artist and session musician! We talk about his new song, what The Fill Ins have been up to, a lot of covid talk, bucket list bands, Something Good Network, cassettes, guitar wizards, and we make apologies for a few bands that people like to regularly talk bad about, among a lot of other things (there really wasn't much on the cutting room floor from this one)! This one was pretty much two friends hanging out and having a good time via zoom (even with a pesky lag that I edited out at times and left in at others... for context!), so we get a little bit all over the place. Talks! - Episode 27 - Jeff Williams (Biggy Stardust, The Dead Kings, Stop Talking)
This week, I brought my bandmate, Eric Huskins, along with me to interview, not just Jeff Williams (formerly of Punished, The Dead Kings, and Biggy Stardust), but also members of his current band (Stop Talking), Travis Lee Overcash and Terry Hudson! We had a blast sitting in Travis' garage talking about Stop Talking, as well as Jeff's past bands (some of Terry's too!), the scene in the early 2000's, sketchy practice spaces, the magical Crate amp, and we took a walk down memory lane while talking about all the "stops" we used to frequent in Charlotte in the nineties.
Note: The "Penitentials" song might actually be a Jack Magic song that was mislabled. I thought I had replaced it, but I've lost the original project file and I couldn't do it now without some heavy duty re-editing that would take more time than I've got.

Radio - Episode 17
Gabba Gabba Huh? Radio is back and in a familiar, shorter (but not too short... I went for longer songs this time!), easier to digest format! While this one is following the old format, I recorded this one mostly live! Not a true facebook live, but this one was just like I was broadcasting on the radio with the songs played live as you'll hear them, and only minimal editing my stuff between. Where's episode 2?! It's coming! This "mini-sode" (I don't know how "mini" 38 minutes is though) of the Gabba Gabba Huh? Talks! Podcast is everything about The Wacky Pacakage that was edited from nearly three and a half hours of converasation with two of my best friends, Matt and Roger. In the full podcast (Talks! Episode 2), you'll hear about our punk rock origins, our first band, and more, but this is all about our detour as vounteer DJ's at WNCW in Spindale, NC! There's no music in this one, so it's a little bit different, and a taste of the type of extra content I intend to bring in the future with this project! Mike sits down (on the floor!) with Negulators from Charlotte, NC for the first episode of the Gabba Gabba Huh? Talks! Podcast, the interview style counterpart to the radio style episodes. This band is full of history! You'll hear about bands such as 30 Ft Beast! Subculture! Kudzu Ganja! NOFX! And more! This one gets a bit chaotic at times, but it's full of great stories that you will want to hear! We still have over 30 minutes of unused audio, and while it's not all usable, there's still some good tidbits in there. In this episode, we start at the beginning with North Carolina's first punk band! We also get really heavy, and a little bit evil, so brace yourselves! Then we hang out in the nineties quite a bit again, and there's a song by one of our favorite current bands in Charlotte! This one's chock full of some important bands, so don't miss it! And I would like to note that we need to get a more consistent set up so our edits don't stand out so much, but we're learning! That was fast! We're back! But don't get too used to this rapid release schedule as we intend to settle into a more regular weekly/bi-weekly schedule in the near future with radio episodes filling in weeks between interview style episodes.
