Fasting does not only save conserve the energy normally used toward digestion, but it takes that energy and uses it for healing instead. It can also be a meditative experience for the mind, as there is a slow-down of chemical reactions in the  brain as consumption of food is stopped. Overall, fasting has been proven to benefit holistic health.
