Hustle Clean is an active care brand that manufactures antibacterial and antimicrobial wipes to clean, sanitize, deodorize and disinfect bodies and surfaces, for use in the fitness community and beyond. On this episode, we hear from co-founder Wale Forrester about the brand’s history, which begins with him and two former UC Berkeley football players (1:51). Forrester reveals the challenges they overcame in launching Hustle Clean, formerly Shower Pill (6:05), as well as the secret ingredient to getting in the door at big-name retailers like Target and Walmart (11:24). After launching multiple lines and becoming an omnichannel business, Forrester recalls how the business quickly outgrew its systems of spreadsheets and “the back of napkins” (16:58), noting how a lack of real-time data becomes detrimental in demand planning and fundraising (19:41). He walks us through their decision to implement NetSuite (22:18) and how automating accounting and inventory management processes will allow the business to continue to scale (25:44). Finally, Forrester unveils some of the biggest lessons learned amid the pandemic (30:09), how that’s impacted his priorities for the business (34:32), and where Hustle Clean is headed in the future (38:25).
