Episode 102: That Sounds Like a Doctor Who Problem (The Android Invasion)
This episode, the Watchers have all been replaced by doppelgangers as we tackle The Android Invasion! With a script written by everyone’s favourite hack, Terry Nation, it’s a chance for everyone to play one of the most fun games around – Terry Nation Bingo! We also say goodbye to a much-loved character, as well as to another one that’s loved by everyone except Julie. You can’t win ‘em all!
Along the way, Reilly can’t help but think of the Conspiracies episode of Community, Anthony gets frustrated over Barry Letts’ overuse of CSO (yes, again), Julie draws unfortunate parallels with The Dominators, and Don thinks he found a reference to Tom Lehrer. The entire team tries to figure out a way to make the whole thing with Crayford’s missing-but-not-missing eye work.

Episode 101: Geometrically Swole (Pyramids of Mars)
This episode, we’re tackling a fan favourite. Coming in at the 7th best Doctor Who serial of all time in Doctor Who Magazine’s 2009 Mighty 200 Poll and at 8th in their 2013 50th Anniversary Poll, it’s safe to say that Pyramids of Mars has an excellent reputation… but will the Watchers agree?
Along the way, Anthony talks of childhood head-canon, Julie gets increasingly concerned with the number of shoulder-rubs-of-death™, Don admires Marcus’ cheekbones, and Reilly gets excited about the return of the country yokel trope. Episode 100: Wait, Not Like That! (Planet of Evil)
We’re off to the edges of the known universe in a quest for a new power source, as we discuss Planet of Evil! And, oh dear! Season 13 started SO WELL last episode, and (spoilers) goes downhill SO quickly this time around. Le sigh. At least the music’s on point this time around…
Along the way, Julie declares a strong dislike for all men whose names start with the letter “s”; Don explains why if he could re-make any Doctor Who story, it would be this one; Reilly expresses concerns over the mismatch between the sets and the tone; and something went wrong with Anthony’s original recording, and he had to overdub almost all of his dialogue, much like the jungle scenes in this story. The entire team spends the entire episode absolutely slating this serial.

Bonus Episode 24: Lizard-Skinning Vogan-Worshippers (Big Finish - Return of the Cybermen)
Anthony and Julie are joined by friend-of-the-podcast R. Alan Siler for this season’s side-step into the realms of audio. This time around, we have chosen to do something a little different – rather than focus on an original audio story, we discuss Return of the Cybermen, which is based on an earlier script for Revenge, and was released as part of Big Finish’s Lost Stories range.

Episode 97: Shoulder Rub of Death (Revenge of the Cybermen)
Just like that, we’ve reached the end of Tom Baker’s first season with Revenge of the Cybermen. And oh boy, is this one a doozy. Could this possibly be the worst Cybermen story to date? Well, obviously, you’ll have to listen to this podcast episode to find out what we think in Shoulder Rub of Death!
Along the way, Anthony fights the urge to nitpick every single element of the story, Don expresses his intense dislike of this version of the Cybermen, Julie wonders where she can get herself the sonic vibrator that’s mentioned in the story, and Reilly is exasperated by what could only be described as “the world’s smallest shoot-out.” The entire team talks about Harry Sullivan being an imbecile (because of course we do!)

Our thoughts continue to be with his friends and family.
Along the way, Julie finds herself thinking that there’s something more to the Buddhist Abbott than meets the eye (or ear?), and Anthony wonders what happened to the other mind parasites that arrived on Earth in the regular Doctor Who universe. Episode 91: Self-Indulgent and Unnecessary (Season 11 Retrospective)

From the highs of Benton punching a General in Invasion of the Dinosaurs, to the lows of… well, the entirety of The Monster of Peladon, we talk about it all with our usual blend of awards, a look back on our metrics and scores from the season, and questions from our social media followers. It’s definitely an interesting one – but what about this season is particularly “Self-Indulgent and Unnecessary?”
Along the way, Julie continues her Benton love, Reilly explains why John Dearth as Lupton is the Best Supporting Actor, Anthony does his best Neska impression (and is still somehow does a better job of conveying emotion than Jenny Laird), and Don confesses his bizarre love of the cliffhanger from Part Three of Death to the Daleks. Episode 90: Cloudy with a Chance of Metebelis (Planet of the Spiders)
This episode, the Watchers return to Metebelis III as they exasperatedly take on the final Pertwee serial with Planet of the Spiders. Complete with a former salesman plotting revenge through the accumulation of power while at a Buddhist retreat (wut?) and a mindlessly self-indulgent chase scene, is this the story that will finally break the Watchers (or just Reilly)?
Along the way, Anthony struggles to make sense of the Spiders’ power structure, Julie picks up on one particular element inspiring a major device for 2008’s Series 4 episode Turn Left, Don rages at the brazen attempt to add to canon for no good reason, and Reilly finds Lupton’s plan so utterly baffling. The entire crew despairs over the mindless self-indulgence that is the Part Two chase scene.

Episode 89: Peladon? More Like Peladon’t! (The Monster of Peladon)
We’re heading back to Peladon for the penultimate serial of the Pertwee era, where a new painfully unassertive monarch has to deal with an uppity religious advisor, rumours of their God being unhappy, difficulty with members of the Galactic Federation, and a minor miner rebellion thrown in for good effect. All stretched out to six episodes, rather than four! Dear god. At least it’ll make for an entertaining conversation!
Along the way, Reilly theorizes that the Doctor deliberately dressed in green, as he was expecting to see Alpha Centauri again, Julie is delighted that someone is finally calling out the Doctor on his incessant name-dropping, Don does his best Alpha Centauri impression, and Anthony finds himself wishing that this was an out-and-out comedy. The entire team discusses how absolutely bonkers Ettis is as a character.

Episode 87: Hot Dino on Dino Action (Invasion of the Dinosaurs)
Kklak! It’s the Annual Malcolm Hulke Lizard Extravaganza®, as we bang-a-gong for the children of the revolution as we take on T. Rexes in Invasion of the Dinosaurs! The Doctor and Sarah return to London, only to be confronted by a conspiracy to which almost everyone is involved, and some of Ray Harryhausen’s cast-offs. Ah well, you can’t win ‘em all.
Over the course of the episode, Reilly explains his suspicions on how Spielberg may have approached this as the low water mark for the effects of Jurassic Park, Anthony compares the colour and the black & white versions of Part One, Don theorises that Benton is the only sane member of UNIT at this point, and Julie is happy that Benton is finally allowed to have some tea. Episode 76: Rise of the Moustache Brigade (The Sea Devils)
The Silurians are back, but in aquatic form! And disappointingly called Sea Devils and not Sealurians, because someone decided that they wanted to avoid further scientific inaccuracies. Disappointment over the name of the creatures aside, we spend the episode discussing The Sea Devils - a rollicking adventure that also includes everyone's favourite bearded Time Lord renegade, as well as some jaunts with the Royal Navy. What fun!
Over the course of the episode, Julie praises the fine Naval beards on display, Anthony overuses nautical puns (much to the chagrin of the rest of the team), Don takes note of the amount of food consumed in this serial, and Reilly pinpoints the moment that the Third Doctor becomes “cool.” The entire team takes note of Jo’s outfit and ponder the question of style vs. dry cleaning bills.

Episode 58: No Other Women in Space (The Space Pirates)
This episode, we bring to you our discussion of a story that is, in the eyes of fandom, one of the worst stories of all time. Seriously, in Doctor Who Magazine’s 50th Anniversary poll, it came in at 7th last. It’s also the last story to have missing episodes. That’s right, it’s the one and only The Space Pirates! Will we find it as bad as accepted wisdom would have it?
Over the course of the episode, Don questions the justice system of the time that this is set in, Julie continues to fangirl over Jamie, Anthony questions the decision to merge the pirate and cowboy genres and then set the whole thing in space, and Reilly gets the name of The Ballad of the Last Chance Saloon wrong and attempts to fix in post-production with some hilariously bad dubbing. Over the course of the discussion, the crew touch on a wide range of topics, including which missing story would benefit the most from animation, the most challenging or radically different episodes of the time, and how the era reflected the socio-political situation of the time. Anthony and Don manage to get their final blows in against Richard Martin and John Wiles, respectively. Finally, things get rather silly when Alan surprises everyone with a few rounds of “Snog, Marry, Avoid!,” with some rather outrageous options.

This episode, we discuss Season 2’s The Space Museum, in all its tonal inconsistency. Along the way, Reilly is the one who brings up the music for a change, Julie gets mad at Reilly for stealing her words, Anthony reads too much into the story by drawing out themes of apartheid, and Don notes that after encountering Daleks, giant insects, and a multitude of other monsters, this is the episode that seems to make Ian lose it. The entire team find themselves amazed at how much of a great time the Doctor is having through this story (and this season in general).
