Why we silence our voices to keep the peace
I've been called to share more of what I've learned over the last decade about speaking my truth and reclaiming my feminine voice. Our society is only just starting to come to terms with how women’s voices have been silenced and discarded. In many parts of the world, being a woman means to serve a man, keep quiet, and honor the patriarchy without question. No thanks!
Many of us are conditioned that it is not safe to speak our truth from a very early age or perhaps we were taught to only speak when spoken to. This conditioning often causes children to withdraw because what they have to say isn't deemed important. Often, we go from learning to withdraw as a child to becoming withdrawn as an adult because we are afraid of being ignored, belittled, or shut down. Most often we silence ourselves to keep the peace.

For many years, I could only the negative, shadow aspects of my journey as a teen. I carried buckets full of shame for far too long. Now I practice seeing both sides of the young woman I once was, instead of only the parts where I fell from grace. I give thanks for how resilient my inner teenager was and how far I’ve come on this imperfect journey.
I invite you to create a beautiful altar honoring your inner teenager. All you need to do is find a picture of yourself as a teen and surround her with some sacred items on a special shelf, counter, desk, or mantle. Each time you pass by, give her some extra love and attention. Let her know that you see her and accept ALL of her just as she is/was.

I’ve learned that walking in beauty is creating an intimate relationship with the goodness of all creation. I feel deep gratitude and respect for the Native American people who inspired my deeper curiosity about living in a beauty way.
