The Dean's Gambit - What's Villa's Next Move Without Grealish?
Aston Villa have been struggling in recent weeks with a stuttering midfield and have needed to rely on their defensive resilience to snatch points. Now Dean Smith has a further problem with the sudden loss of his captain and talisman, Jack Grealish. The 2-1 loss to Leicester City was perhaps no surprise, with or without Grealish, but the honeymoon period of the 20/21 is over. There's issues to sort out. Can Smith get his midfield up to the level of his defence? What's eating Ross Barkley? Is it time for a reshuffle of the pack? We lookat all this and more. Outside of Villa we look at the potential evolution of VAR, after MOMS met PGMOL last week, the stand off between the EFL and government, and the latest Sun headline that casts a shadow over the England squad. In Overrated or Underrated, it's time for Emile Heskey to step up for his appraisal Enjoy! St Johnstone win their second piece of silverware in their history, breaking Livi hearts in the process. The gang praise the calm Callum Davidson and have their say on the Rooney for Scotland debate. Speaking of debates, who will be replacing Neil Lennon in the summer following his departure last week? JJ makes the case for Paul Lambert as Celtic manager. Motherwell put in their performance of the season by winning at Hibs and Graham Alexander wants to talk about that and nothing else. Greatest Games: West Ham United 1 Dinamo Tbilisi 4, 1981
This week on Greatest Games, Brian Homewood joins Jonathan Wilson and Marcus Speller to discuss the 1981 Uefa Cup Winners’ Cup quarter-final first-leg between West Ham United and Dinamo Tbilisi. So to the Boleyn Ground for this one, where the ardent West Ham crowd – then used to cruising second division and on the verge of promotion – warmly welcomed the Soviet Cup winners from Georgia. The reception was shortly followed by disbelief as the Georgians picked apart the FA Cup holders on a blustery March night in East London. About the panel: Jonathan Wilson (https://twitter.com/jonawils) founded The Blizzard in 2011 and is editor of the magazine. He’s contributed to a number of publications including the Guardian and Sports Illustrated as well as having authored  Behind the Curtain, Inverting the Pyramid, The Outsider, Angels with Dirty Faces and most recently The Names Heard Long Ago, among others.  Marcus Speller (https://twitter.com/MarcusSpeller) is a host of the Football Ramble podcast as well as Answerable Questions with Questionable Answers. Marcus also regularly hosts our live Q&A events across the country alongside Jonathan. Brian Homewood (https://twitter.com/brianhomewood) is a freelance journalist based in Portugal, contributor of Reuters, World Soccer, ESPN and When Saturday Comes among others.
