Episode 560: Grim Sleeper: South Central’s Serial Killer
On this episode of the Sofa King Podcast, we explore some true crime and look at the life and murders of Lonnie David Franklin JR, aka, The Grim Sleeper. This serial killer was considered the longest operating killer west of the Mississippi River, and it took decades to catch him. He preyed on prostitutes in South Central Los Angeles, and he was only caught due to a piece of pizza and a crazy DNA match that didn’t even connect to him. Nobody really knows much about The Grim Sleeper’s youth, except that he was born in South Central LA in 1952. He spent some time in the army, but he was dishonorably discharged for gang raping a woman in Germany where he was stationed. Back in the states, he lived a typical blue collar life. He was married with two kids, worked in sanitation and even for the LAPD for a bit (not as a cop...). But in the meantime, a string of murders originally assigned to the Southside Slayer were mounting in the worst parts of South Central. Hookers were being found shot in the chest, but there were so many dead prostitutes there that the police thought it was several people doing the killing. And it was. So, how many serial killers used the same hunting grounds as the Grim Sleeper? How did he get his nickname? How did the local LA Weekly newspaper help bring him down? How did a DNA link to his son get him arrested? What does this have to do with a pizza party? How did he kill his victims, and what grisly mementos did the cops find when they raided his house? Listen, laugh, learn.   Visit Our Sources: https://murderpedia.org/male.F/f/franklin-lonnie.htm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grim_Sleeper https://criminalminds.fandom.com/wiki/Lonnie_David_Franklin https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/grim-sleeper-serial-killer-everything-you-need-to-know-252246/ https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/30/us/grim-sleeper-dies-death-row/index.html https://www.ranker.com/list/grim-sleeper-scary-facts/amandasedlakhevener

The Columbine High School Massacre - Eric Harris & Dylan Klebold
In the season 2 finale of ICMAP, Tom and Ben head back over twenty years in order to explore what is arguably America’s most culturally significant mass shooting to date. The ever so chilling and deeply upsetting case of The Columbine High School Massacre... At just after 11 am on April 20th, 1999, juniors Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold walked through the doors of Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado armed with a pistol, a rifle, multiple homemade explosive devices, two knives and two sawed-off shotguns hidden beneath long black trench coats. The duo were also carrying a pair of duffel bags filled with propane tank bombs. In the span of about 45 minutes, they went on a shooting rampage that killed twelve students and one teacher; and injured an additional 24 students... all before turning their guns on themselves. Had it not been for their poor skills in bomb-making, they would have killed hundreds more. The nation stood shocked as it grappled to process exactly how and why two seemingly normal young men could have committed such a despicable, senseless act of violence. Columbine became something of a national divide as the community – and the nation at large – did not hesitate to point the blame on anything they could: from violent video games to rock ‘n’ roll music, from bullying hierarchy’s in schools to antidepressant medication, as well as insufficient school security and gun control. So what drove two seemingly normal boys to commit such evil acts against their schoolmates? Just how long did they spend planning the attack? Why do some people idolise and feel completely infatuated by the boys? Why did the press (and many of the victim’s parents) blame Marilyn Manson? And what reasons did the police have for taking 47 minutes to respond to the attack? Tune in and all will be revealed!  **Please kindly give the show a rating and review on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you find us in your ears at the moment. What a Creep: Marilyn Manson (Rock Creep)
What a Creep: Marilyn Manson “Rock Creep” Season 9, Episode 10 For over 25 years rocker Marilyn Manson has enjoyed a reputation as being one of the darkest theatrical performers in the rock space. He has sold millions of records, has multiple Grammy Award nominations, been the subject of massive protests around the world all while enjoying an acting career and a reputation for dating beautiful women. He also turns out to be a massive creep who has preyed on women for decades and is only now facing the consequences of truly horrible behavior. This is one of those “hiding in plain sight” types of stories. He was not playing a disgusting human—he really is one and hopefully, his reign of taking advantage of people is over.
