Patricks Playlist - Favorites
Have you ever felt like no one would listen to you? That the pain and fog you feel in your mind would never go away? This week’s edition of Patrick’s Playlist is all about overcoming the battle of your mind and restoring it with the work God has planned for you. Patrick gives his testimony, which covers his battle with depression, suicide attempts and legal issues to coming out on the other side as a warrior for God. 8 Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any moral excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy—dwell on these things. Daniel Chapter 11 Part 1
The ever growing issue of Christians not standing up for God’s true word is not a new one. The Jewish people when returning from captivity did this same thing, as we read about in the Daniel Chapter 11. Today on the show, we examine the start of the discourse the angel provides to Daniel about future events and we come to see that the struggles of the Jews who were standing up for God mirror the struggles of the modern day Christian standing up for the Bible in today’s world. 32 With flattery he will corrupt those who act wickedly toward the covenant, but the people who know their God will be strong and take action. Daniel Chapter 10 Part 2
Have you ever felt in a struggle trying to get clarification from God for something in your life? Constant prayer is just not helping and you feel alone waiting for answers? Daniel was in this position for three weeks as he waited to hear from God. In today’s episode we see why there was a delay in response from God, and it is often times not what he think it is that causes the delay. Daniel Chapter 10 Part 1
We must all accept that there are times where we will be exhausted and lonely when doing God’s Word. But it is in those times we have to call out to and rely on God to continue to strengthen our resolve and show us the way He wants us to proceed. Today podcast looks at the first half of Daniel chapter 10, where we see Daniel worn down and fasting as he prays for clarification of the meanings of the visions he has been having. He will encounter a pre-incarnante Christ as well as what is most likely the angel Gabriel. Start The Conversation
It can be very difficult at times to talk to someone who does not know God about the importance of having eternal security in heaven. Especially when we do not know how to even start the conversation. Today, Patrick looks at some questions we can use to get the ball rolling on how to discuss God with those we come into contact with. For the biblical reference, we look at Paul’s speech to the people of Athens when speaking about their statue to the unknown god. 22 Paul stood in the middle of the Areopagus and said, “People of Athens! I see that you are extremely religious in every respect. 23 For as I was passing through and observing the objects of your worship, I even found an altar on which was inscribed, ‘To an Unknown God.’ Therefore, what you worship in ignorance, this I proclaim to you. 24 The God who made the world and everything in it—he is Lord of heaven and earth—does not live in shrines made by hands. 25 Neither is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives everyone life and breath and all things. 26 From one man he has made every nationality to live over the whole earth and has determined their appointed times and the boundaries of where they live. 27 He did this so that they might seek God, and perhaps they might reach out and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. 28 For in him we live and move and have our being, as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also his offspring.’ 29 Since, then, we are God’s offspring, we shouldn’t think that the divine nature is like gold or silver or stone, an image fashioned by human art and imagination. 30 “Therefore, having overlooked the times of ignorance, God now commands all people everywhere to repent, 31 because he has set a day when he is going to judge the world in righteousness by the man he has appointed. He has provided proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.” 32 When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some began to ridicule him, but others said, “We’d like to hear from you again about this.” 33 So Paul left their presence. 34 However, some people joined him and believed, including Dionysius the Areopagite, a woman named Damaris, and others with them. Patricks Playlist - Matthew West
What is the story of your life? Are you out doing the work God has put you on this earth for or are you staying in your own safe, comfortable little world? Patrick uses the music of #MatthewWest and parts of Paul’s letter to the Church at Ephesus to drive home the point that we must be willing to step outside of our comfort zones and begin to do the work God has called us to do do. 17 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, would give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him. Why are we here? This is a question that has been bantered about for years in college classrooms and lecture halls around the world. But the answer sits right in Paul’s letter to the Ephesian church. In today’s episode, Patrick looks at one verse from this letter to help those of us doing God’s work understand the importance of moving forward in creating and growing disciples. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do. Does The World Hate You
Our call as Christian leaders and disciple makers should be to stand out from those who do not follow Christ. Unfortunately, most Christians today blend in some much into the world that it is impossible to see where any line between their church / Christ following life and life outside of the church. "Church of Cowards: A Wake-Up Call to Complacent Christians" by Matt Walsh - "Indeed, the average American believer shares many similarities with the average American unbeliever. If you were to follow him around, track his movements, listen to his conversations, observe how he spends his free time (much like our iPhones already do), you would find no hard evidence that he believes anything at all lies beyond the veil of physical existence. He speaks just like the non-Christians, dresses just like them, carries himself as they do, watches all of the same television shows, consumes the same kind of media, indulges in the same vices, and feels the same lack of guilt for those indulgences. Everything is the same." John 15:19 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. **If you or someone you love is in crisis, reach out for help** NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness. Welcome To God's Family
How do you respond when someone who has hurt you proclaims faith and salvation in Christ? The reaction we have to those who are new Christ is an important aspect to look at in our Christian walk. Do we embrace the new found freedom from sin the person has gained? Or do we look at them with a suspicious eye, questioning their motives and feeling like they been too far gone to ever come to know God’s love? In today’s episode, Patrick examines the second half of the Parable of the Prodigal Son and encourages us all not to take the attitude of the second son in the story. We must do all we can to make those lost who have come home into God’s family feel welcome and loved. 31 “‘Son,’ he said to him, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32 But we had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’” Luke 15:31-32 **If you or someone you love is in crisis, reach out for help** NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness. The Book of 2 John is a small letter from the Apostle John to a strong Christian mother warning her against letting false teachers into her ministry. Although it is short, there are many lessons we can take from it and apply to our modern day ministries. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your home, and do not greet him; 11 for the one who greets him shares in his evil works. Let's Talk Legalism
A legalistic mindset in a church and in a Christian is damaging to the Kingdom. We are covered under Jesus’s blood as the atoning sacrifice to gain eternal salvation, and adding to this sacrifice through rules and laws is not only an undue burden to place on someone, if is Biblically wrong. The Apostle Paul in Galatians write this: For freedom, Christ set us free. Stand firm, then, and don’t submit again to a yoke of slavery. Take note! I, Paul, am telling you that if you get yourselves circumcised, Christ will not benefit you at all. Again I testify to every man who gets himself circumcised that he is obligated to do the entire law. You who are trying to be justified by the law are alienated from Christ; you have fallen from grace. For we eagerly await through the Spirit, by faith, the hope of righteousness. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision accomplishes anything; what matters is faith working through love. Patricks Playlist - TobyMac
How fruitful are you? That is one of the key questions Patrick looks at on the playlist today. As disciple makers for Christ, we are called to be out in the world planting and sowing seeds wherever we are, but so often, we take this commission from God with a lazy approach. Acts 26:29 “I wish before God,” replied Paul, “that whether easily or with difficulty, not only you but all who listen to me today might become as I am—except for these chains.” Are we paying attention to those God has put in our life? Both the ones who build us in our relationship with Jesus, as well as those who may have fallen away that we can help come back to God’s family **If you or someone you love is in crisis, reach out for help** NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness. Tell Your Story
When was the last time you told your conversion story? The Apostle Paul in the Book of Acts gives an account of his calling to King Aggripa. Paul lets it be known that he was called and commissioned to turn all from darkness to light and from Satan to God. He goes on to presents the Gospel of repentance. As we move through our day, we need to remember Paul’s words and make sure we are obedient to the calling God has placed before us. **If you or someone you love is in crisis, reach out for help** NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness.
