Because without maintaining it, all we have is the weight loss rollercoaster, and we don't want to go there. There should be no weight loss rollercoasters in this world.
Now welcome to episode 18, where we're going to discuss why goal setting does not work for weight loss.
I have a special story for this, but let me tell you why you should be paying attention to me.
I have lost a hundred pounds, not once, but three times in my life. And I was put on my very first diet at the age of nine, never reaching my goal and staying there for longer than a few months at a time.
Now, fast forward to 42, where I lost 120 pounds in 18 months. So it was not overnight but I've maintained it for going on 7 years.
And if you kinda do the math there, you'll see I'm 50 years old and still maintaining my weight loss.
This is the what? Fourth day of January. Yes, this is the fourth day of January.
And I weighed the same today as I did, the day before Halloween. So when I say standard goal setting does not work for weight loss. I think I might know what I'm talking about.
But I am here to help you figure out what does work and explain to you why goal setting and its standard form does not work.

Now why does goal setting not work? Well, goal setting is actually good.
Goal setting has to be with smart goals. Now smart is an acronym and it stands for specific measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound if your goal setting is based 100% on a number on the scale, you can not hit a couple of those required elements with weight loss.
Let me explain if your specific goal is, I want to lose a hundred pounds this year. All right. So it's measurable. You record how many pounds you've lost each week. It's attainable.
But it's very large.
But it's relevant and it's time bound.
But with the human body, you cannot control how fast you're going to lose that weight.
So today, let's talk about what we can do instead!
