EP. 27: Taste And See (with Margaret Feinberg)
Show Summary: God could have designed humans to eat rocks, but instead He created food and gave men and women thousands of taste buds to enjoy it. On this episode of “God Hears Her,” Margaret Feinberg joins the show to talk food, which is really a discussion into the deepest longings of a woman’s heart, and God’s invitation to taste and see that He is good. About Our Guest: Margaret Feinberg is a podcaster on The Joycast, a speaker, and an author of several books that have sold over a million copies. She was recently named one of Christianity Today’s top 50 women shaping culture and the church. She lives in Utah with her husband, Leif, and their super-pup Hershey. Her recent book is Taste and See: Discovering God Among Butchers, Bakers and Fresh Food Markets. Notes and Quotes: * "Food is God’s love made edible." * "God creates the garden with a plethora of food and then gives us thousands of taste buds to enjoy it." * "What we really ache for is to know and be known, to love and be loved, and to enter a place where we can be vulnerable and any sense of shame scurries away." * "Communities are little mirrors that reflect ourselves back to us." * "There are times when I need, through prayer and Scripture, to hear God’s love for me. And there are other times, for that to really take root, I need to hear it through other humans who are reflecting His glory and His presence." * "Social media is a dangerous game because it begins to feel like 'life.' But when words come from a person, in person, they are more meaningful and life-changing." * "If you want to have community, you have to build it, often out of nothing." * "If we want to be seen, we may have to open our eyes and see first. If we want to be heard, we have to become people who are really great listeners." * "The deepest hungers of your heart are uniquely designed to be met first and foremost by God. Jesus really is the One who can speak the syllables you most need to hear." * "Reach out to meet others’ needs; and as you love them and bring joy to them, you’ll find some of your needs met too." * "Choose good people: life-giving, Jesus-loving, makes-you-laugh-until-tears-run-down- your-cheeks-and-other-places kind of people." Teach Us to Pray
Teach Us to Pray
Christina Patterson
Episode 12: Prayers That Will Drastically Change Your Life
We've been on such a fruitful journey on this podcast. We've learned that prayer is the way we communicate with the Maker of the Universe, and He not only hears us, but He also responds. We've learned that through prayer, we access healing, wisdom, discernment, peace, protection, joy, and so much power we could never experience on our own. On our last podcast in this series, we share specific prayers that can drastically change your life. We also close out this series by praying together over these areas so that you can start experiencing the benefit of prayer today. Key Takeaways: • If changing our thoughts from negative to positive can turn our day from good to bad, they also have to power to direct the course of our lives. • Our Heavenly Father is ready and willing to guide and direct our steps and provide us with His wisdom and discernment to make the right decisions. • Even when we are weary and weak, the Lord is willing and ready to grant us His strength to surrender to the things we think I can't do or be. Living from Union
As we finish up our week on centering our lives around meeting with God, today we’ll discover the beauty of living from union with him. Today may you discover and wonder at how incredibly connected and one with God you already are through Christ. May you live each day aware of and benefitting from that union, and be forever changed. It is my prayer that the reality of Christ’s finished work on the cross sinks into our hearts and minds today, and that our lives are turned upside down as a result. Our Scripture for today comes from Galatians 2:20, and today's worship is Communion by Bryan McCleery. ________ Last year felt like a wilderness and a desert in many ways. Yet in the midst of the fear, unrest, and anxiety, God moved. In fact, during 2020, over half a million men and women joined the First15 community! With all this growth, we need financial help to propel forward the mission to guide believers all around the world to experience God the first 15 minutes of their day. We’ve set a goal of seeing 221 new monthly donors come on board this first month of 2021. And we want to invite you to give your first gift as a First15 monthly partner today. In This Episode: The work of a new heart is done in Christ, but we are still participants in that work. Every day, we have the choice: will we continue to put off the old self, and put on the old self? In this episode, Nicole looks at what it means for us to take our thoughts captive and hold them up to the truth of God’s Word. This Week’s Key Verses: Ephesians 4:22-24: “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” 2 Corinthians 10:5: “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” Lamentations 3:22-23: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Follow Nicole: Her Site | Facebook | Instagram Episode Image Credit: Getty/nadia_bormotova

It’s Not Where You’ve Been, But Where You’re Going: Tana Amen & The Women from Jobs Partnership
Have you ever wished you’d made a different choice? Or imagined how different your life might have been if you’d taken a different path? No matter how bleak things might have been at one point, God can take your story and use it for good, and He can point you on the right path to healing. Nurse and author Tana Amen experienced more pain and chaos in her life than one person should ever have to face. She shoved all of the hurt deep down inside, building a façade to convince others she was okay, when she actually was about to crack. When she met her future husband, Dr. Daniel Amen, Tana learned some ways to heal herself and was loved so well by Daniel (and by God) that she began to find the restoration she so desperately needed. It was in that time that she realized God cares way more about where you’re going than where you’ve been. Cheryl Parks, Mila Brown, and Corday Rice join us from the Jobs Partnership organization in Peoria, Illinois, which seeks to help people transition from a life of incarceration back into society as healthy, healed individuals. These women share how they’ve seen the power of God operating in their lives, and how He rescued them from situations where they couldn’t escape of their own power. Now, they’re passionate about sharing about their pasts in hopes that they can change the lives of others the way they’ve been changed by God. It meant I wasn't really in control. It wasn't me just relying on God. It was like me giving up control and being a victim.” - Tana Amen “What I learned is that when I put myself out there and helped when I didn't want to, I just had no idea how much the help was for them, but the healing was for me.” - Tana Amen “I think it's important to draw boundaries, but also understand when God's calling you to do something.” - Tana Amen “God cares less about where you've been than where you're going. And I'm so grateful for that grace and that mercy.” - Tana Amen “I feel like my life is so much better today not in spite of my struggles, but because of them.” - Tana Amen “Meditation is when I listen to God and I listen for what He's saying to me. And prayer is when I'm talking to God and I tell Him my joy, my frustration, everything that there is, and I get it out of my head and it just really stills my soul and it's so helpful.” - Tana Amen “If my story can help anybody, one person, I've done what I needed to do.” - Mila Brown “The whole time that I was incarcerated, in my mind, I'm like, God, where am I going to go? I know no one. I have nobody. I have no family, no friends. No one has reached out to me for the four and a half years that I have been incarcerated. What am I going to do?” - Corday Rice “People say that change is scary, but change is good.” - Corday Rice “It was good to have women just look at me and just say that, “I love you.” And they didn't even know me. So I knew right then and there that that could only be the love of God that's working through them in the Jobs Partnership program.” - Corday Rice “I feel like God knew that I didn't have the strength to get out of the situation that I was in, so He forced my hand.” - Mila Brown ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel: Audio Playlist: https://bit.ly/2PrbuwH Video Playlist: https://bit.ly/2PsmEkJ What’s Good?
