I AM | The Vine
Jesus says ‘I AM the vine’ and we are branches, and that we should abide in him. What does he mean by abide? What does he mean that you and I are a branch? So many questions! (Important note - this I AM statement is pretty much the key to the entire Christian journey! Whoa!)

I AM | I am The Bread Of Life
It's REALLY hard to know who and what to believe these days. Who has the truth? Who should you trust? What’s the payoff? This Sunday we are looking at Jesus’ statement in John 6: “I AM the bread of life.” What a weird thing for Jesus to compare himself to… bread! And then he tells those following him to do something that sounds crazy. Jesus makes some big claims and we have two choices – believe him… or not. Find out on Sunday the amazing offer for those who believe.

I AM | I am the Gate
When was the last time you stole something? Hopefully you read that and went "woah, no way, never….." You can usually only steal something when no one is watching - right? (at least that’s what I’ve heard - ha) This Sunday we are looking at Jesus statement - ‘I AM the gate’ in John 10. This statement has so much meaning and depth it is wild! One aspect is that he is the one who protects us - he is always watching over us in love - always. No one sneaks past Jesus to try and steal us when he is on the job - Which is always!

I AM | I am the Light of the World
When was the last time you had a power cut at night? One minute everything is light and you can see things and people fine, and the next minute - boom- total darkness. You kind of have to freeze for a moment to figure out what just happened. On Sunday we looked at the amazing statement of Jesus ‘I AM the light of the world’. Does this just refer to when he made blind people see, or is there something way more amazing going on? To find out, join us this Sunday with part 3 of our "I AM" series.

I AM | Jesus In His Own Words - Resurrection & Life
This week we are looking at Jesus' words in John 11 about being the resurrection and life. But what does that even mean? As followers of Jesus how do these words apply when we are alive? Are these just hopeful words about the future or is there a reality in them that we can experience today?

I Am | Jesus In His Own Words - Series Intro
It is wild to see how many different 'Jesus' there are on the planet. For some people, Jesus is a revolutionary overthrowing a corrupt government. For some people, Jesus is a meek and mild child they call out out only when things are going wrong. For others, Jesus is only myth from an ancient time. Who do you say Jesus is? And how can you be sure this is who Jesus claimed to be, and not simply a reflection of your own beliefs, feelings, likes and dislikes.

Peter | All In A Day's Work
Peter has a few things to say to slaves, but his words are suprising. Rather than telling them to rise up and rebel against the injustice, he requires them to respect and honour their masters. This Sunday, speaker Nathan Martin will unpack why Peter gives this strange advice to slaves and learn what it means for our lives today.

JOSEPH | Faith in Hardship - God's Timing is Often Wild
God's timing is often wild. It is good, but it is wild. Often we have no idea what God is preparing us for. He always has plans for us , things he wants to fulfill in us, and giftings, callings and passions he wants to work out in us. Yet so often the timing of what he is doing at a particular moment can be so confusing. Although obviously I don’t know for sure, I do think Joseph would agree that Gods timing is wild - His timing is good, but it is wild

JOSPEH | Faith in Hardship - When Life turns to custard, God's got you!
This week, Craig continues on the story and life of Joseph (Gen 39), through Joseph's rollercoaster ride of a life we see that he holds firm in God and does not allow the temptations of his circumstances over come his desire to trust in God's plan.

Psalms | Why Should I Praise God?
If you are like most people, there are days when you wake up and the last thing you feel like doing is praising God. You have chores to do, whaanau to sort and hang out with, and a looming pile of work or study teetering on a fast-approaching horizon. So why praise God? On Sunday we pulled Psalm 33 apart and you will see in there some amazing reasons why praising God is not just a good idea, it is life-changingly essential.

How Are You Really? - An extended conversation with Jeremy & Dave
This extended conversation between Jeremy & Dave is a continuation from last Sunday's message about the effects this lockdown period can be having on us. In it they cover some of the ways in which this can present itself physiologically, mentally, spiritually and socially. As individuals we all are experiencing these uncertain times in some way and as Jesus followers we want to pay attention to what is going on within us and what are some ways we can journey this with God.

Psalms | God thinks ‘IN LOVE’ about me all the time
I know that is not great grammar, but when we unpack Psalm 139 on Sunday you will totally understand what I am trying to say there. This has to be one of the most well known and loved Psalms ever. But how can this make sense when it looks like David wants to run away and hide from God in the middle of it? Maybe the reality that God can totally read our minds has something to do with it. Is that totally scary, or totally reassuring? Hmmm?

Markers of Maturity | Organic Outreach
If you are like a lot of people as soon as you hear the word 'outreach' you break out in a cold sweat. On Sunday though I'm talking about how simply telling someone of the hope Jesus has given me is totally easy. The key is it's not so much the words you use, but the life you live. Ka kite anoo

Markers Of Maturity | Joyful Generosity
How on earth can I be generous in 'lockdown'? Wow - these are some crazy and scary times. If someone told you a month ago that Aotearoa would be in almost total lockdown, you would have laughed, cried, or maybe ran away. This Sunday we are looking at the fifth marker of maturity - Joyful Generosity. Is it really possible to be generous during this wild time, or is it better to just lock everything down and hold on.

Markers Of Maturity | Consistent Community
Community is something as individuals we all need and engage in in various ways. From church, to sports teams, to craft groups and the many different clubs, we love to connect! But why are we drawn to be with other people? As Christians we believe that community is an expression of God's heart and how he has designed us. This Sunday we are going to be looking at consistent community in our series "Markers of Maturity" and the role it plays in taking us deeper with Jesus and growing our faith. So join us as we lean in to God by practicing community. It won't be the same without you!

Markers of Maturity | Bible Based Life
This week, Tina came and spoke on three verses. In this she showed that the Bible gives direction, is all about Jesus and is life changing. And when we read our Bible that we need to actually see what is says, what it means and what can I do with it?

Markers of Maturity | Christ like Character
How do I really live like Jesus? When I take my dog for a walk, she is always watching me. If I stop, she stops and watches me, waiting to see what I do next. Even when I just go and get her lead she goes a bit wild knowing she is about to hang out with me! This is how I want to be with Jesus. Watching and waiting on Him and looking to see where He is going. I want to be so excited when I make time to just go for a walk with Jesus and sit in quietness with Him.

Philippians - Our Lives in Christ
Rejoicing, anti-anxiety, PEACE! All of these capture our hearts and minds when we hear them, but why so often is there a sense that they are so hard to grasp? This week in our Philippians series we are going to be looking at what Paul says is the go to for joy, wholeness and peace and how they can become commonplace in our lives.

Philippians - Love Well Fruit Well
What is the key to living a spiritually healthy Christian life? There are as many theories out there as there are people on the planet. Paul, who wrote most of the NT, has some super insightful guidance that is both easy to understand and very practical. Paul says we need to learn to love well, and as we do this we will naturally produce spiritual fruit and replicate Jesus. BUT - how on earth do you love well? Ka kite anoo - Craig

A Thrill of Hope | Weary or Wise
This Sunday we finish our Christmas series "A Thrill of Hope" with the story of the Magi. There are a lot of theories about who they were, where they were from and what they were doing but what we do know is that they came seeking one who would change this weary world forever.

A Trill Of Hope - Can you sustain the Universe from a Barn?
In today's message, we are going to look at three more stages in the birth narrative of Jesus. We will be exploring some pretty interesting facts that we often miss. -What is Josephs emotional reaction to Mary when he wakes from his Angel dream? -When you stop to think about it, who is really sleeping in an animal feed trough? -Why is Jesus surrounded by criminals his whole life?

Thrill of Hope | Mary - I don't know but I'm trusting You
I'd strongly argue that Mary has no idea how she will become pregnant from the Holy Spirit. Yet, in simple child-like faith she submits her body to the gentle will of Almighty God. How is it that this illiterate teenager who lived 2,000 years ago, can teach us so much about trusting the leading of God?

A Thrill of Hope | A Weary World
You don’t have to look around long to notice that the world seems pretty weary... you might even put yourself in that camp. You wouldn’t be alone in that, in fact, that's been something humanity has been dealing with for a very long time. But why? This week we are beginning our new series “A Thrill of Hope” and we will be looking at where this weariness comes from and what the story of Christmas has to do with it.

Making Space - A Wealth of Wisdom
I don’t think it is really a tricky question, but which wisdom do you think it is better to listen to - society or God? When it comes to money, possessions and time though a lot of us default to listen to how society is telling us to live our lives.

People of Faith - How is Your Vision?
Faith is confidence and assurance in something we cannot see with our physical eyes but that we can 'see' with our spiritual eyes. We all need to check our vision to make sure we are seeing clearly. Moses' parents, Moses, and Joshua show us that faith is seeing Jesus, putting Him first, and stepping out to do what God has called us to.

People of Faith - Obedience
This Sunday, we will look at some of the amazing people of faith, focusing on Abraham and Sarah. Although they both make a number of mistakes - like we all do - they are also people who exhibit amazing faith. A faith that is acted out in incredible, and quite illogical, obedience to God.

Hebrews | People Of Faith
This week we begin a new series looking at the “People of faith” in Hebrews 11 and we will consider the ‘faith’ of the people who have gone before us. You might be surprised to find that the faith that enabled these heroes to persevere, to hope, and to do what is right, is the faith we too share today.

Love Is A Verb
How do you know if someone loves you and has your back? They can say it and say it, but until they actually do something and put their ‘money where their mouth is’ you honestly don’t know if they mean it. How about with God? How do you know if he really loves you and is not just saying nice stuff? This Sunday, Craig shares his message of truth with us that love is a verb.

This We Believe - An Introduction to the Trinity
This Sunday we began the exciting journey of delving deeper into the theology and wonder of the Trinity in our new series THIS WE BELIEVE. Often viewed as peripheral, extra, weird or just plain confusing, our understanding of the Trinity is actually central to our faith as Christians. Why? Because, it is all about the God we love, worship and have our life in. Michael Reeves writes “Neither a problem nor a technicality, the triune being of God is the vital oxygen of Christian life and joy.” Come and breathe deep this ‘vital oxygen’, as God takes us deeper with Himself.

Thinking Well Session - Sarah Field
Every word, thought, feeling and action utilises neural pathways. As we use these pathways we make them bigger and stronger and easier to use. Every time we speak, think, feel or act we shape our physical brains. The brain is constantly changing according to how we use it! Neuroscience tells us that we can rewire our brains. The Bible tells us that we can renew our minds. Listen in as we journey thinking well with Sarah Field for a workshop that helps you engage in this rewiring, renewing experience using two simple and effective tools.

James - Money Can't Buy me Love

James - The Battle Within and the God who is Near
James addresses the two ways of living and what he refers to as the battle within our divided souls. The pull between two worlds, two ways, two kingdoms. But James tell us there is hope for a whole soul! When we are surrendered to God, we experience the reality of Him who is so very near.

James - What wisdom are you living from?
James points out that we can tame a tiger, but we cannot tame the tongue! Why is it that a person's tongue is completely impossible to control? In Chapter 3, James explains exactly what we need to do to not only control our tongue, but to also become as wise as God Himself! Or as James puts it; wise with heaven's wisdom. Whoa.

James - You Show Me Yours I'll Show you Mine
A core message through the book of James is that the truth of a persons outward actions reflect their true internal nature. Is the faith a person claims to have in Jesus changing their life so they live a life of sacrifice and service and live in obedience to Jesus - or not.

Loving Our World | With Humility
This Sunday, Love is... humble. What is the true posture of love? What is it in my attitudes about others and myself that hinders or encourages love to be expressed? 1 Corinthians 13 v 4

This Sunday, Love is... kind. As part of a broken world, we have both experienced the pain of unkindness, and we have inflicted unkindness. It was not meant to be this way. God created us for loving, harmonious, generous, selfless connection and relationships with Himself and with others.

Connecting Personally With Christ
A desire of most Christians is to spend time with Jesus, to connect powerfully with him. Yet many go from week to week with little, or no, actual deep, real, powerful connection with Christ. Why is it important to connect with him, and how can we do this in a simple way in the midst of our crazy-busy lives?

Communion is deeply mystical | What is it really about?
This week our Guest Speaker - Craig Barrow - speaks in Communion. Communion is something we do often as Christians, but how many of us regularly stop to reflect on the deep meaning behind communion? There is something deeply mystical in what the elements of communion link us back to. There is something deeply mystical in the death and sacrifice of Christ and it is important for us to understand this and to link back to it whenever we take communion.

The Good News - Mark 13-15
Now it’s time for Jesus to walk the talk: as he stops the arguing, he lays down any arms for battle, he moves from first to last, from Lord to servant, and he entrusts himself to his Fathers arms, ways, and even justice. In doing so we see how temporary the evil, authority, and power of humanity on this planet really is. These climatic chapters of Mark show us the REALITY of Jesus that has formed our HISTORY and set in place our ETERNITY!

Christians Against Poverty - Mark 10
This Sunday we are excited to hear from Abbey about Christians Against Poverty's (CAP) heart and mission: to release Kiwis from a life sentence of debt, poverty and its causes - into a life filled with hope and freedom. Originally from Canada, Abbey has called New Zealand home for the past 14 years. Abbey first encountered CAP when a change in circumstances prompted her to attend a ‘CAP Money’ course…fast forward a few years and Abbey now works full-time at CAP! In her role as Church Partnership Director, Abbey loves journeying with churches to help them find their ‘CAP sweet spot’ - supporting the church’s own vision to reach their community, and empower people to step out into their callings and giftings. This Sunday we dig into Mark 10:46-52 and explore the opportunities for CBC to connect with CAP.

The Good News - Mark 10
What did Jesus mean by “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross”, what’s with this losing one’s life business, how can someone who is last be first and what’s so important about children that Jesus keeps telling us to welcome them? Just like the disciples who were with Him wrestled with His words and what kind of counter-culture life they offered, this Sunday we listened to the words of Jesus and considered what obedience to them looks like today as His followers.

The Good News - Mark 3-4
This week we will be see how the Good News of Jesus was not just a call towards heaven, but a call to consider how we live and interact with those around us. Jesus hung out with what many would consider the weirdest of people. He challenged long held religious traditions of his day. And He told stories (or Parables) that were completely counter cultural and sounded nothing like the normal religious teaching at all.

The Good News - Mark 2:1-12
In chapter 1 v 14-15 of Mark it says that Jesus was proclaiming ‘the good news of God’ and that the ‘Kingdom of God has come near” -a statement that seems odd when it was still years before Jesus would go to the cross. But in chapter 2 we learn that not only does Jesus come bringing physical wholeness but also spiritual wholeness to the paralysed man, commanding him to walk and forgiving him his sins. This story is important to our understanding of what the good news is, how far reaching it goes and to whom the message applies. This reminds us of the expansive nature of the good news about Jesus.

The Good News - Mark 1:29-39

The Good News - The Good News is Jesus
This Sunday we begin our new series in the book of Mark. Mark is a ‘gospel’, or ‘good news’ … good news about Jesus. The truth is that the good news is more than the message about Jesus, it is Jesus! Over the next 3 Sunday's at CBC, SUMMER AT CBC, we are going to consider being both RESTED and READY and how they related to a rhythm of life God has design us for. So as many of us come off being RESTED are we READY for 2019 and what lies ahead?

Peace On Earth | Trust
This week we are carrying on in our Christmas series “Peace on Earth” by taking a look at the amazing story of Mary. In a situation where peace would be least expected, Mary seems so calm. Peace On Earth | Expectancy
"Peace on earth" is something often heard around this time of year. Is it really a thing though? Not many of us would use the word peace to describe the state of things be it in us or around us. Jonah | Love The World
Jonah, what are you trying to say? So what's the point of this story again? And what's with the un-ended story? Is God's final question rhetorical? Or is it left for the reader (originally Israel, and now for us today) to answer? Jonah 4:11 And should I not have concern for the great city of Nineveh...? Questions to consider: * Who and what is our world? * Who do 'we' (the church) get angry over and consider outside of God's love? * Who are our Ninevites? Is it right for God to love 'our' world? Or is it 'his' world? * What and who do I love and why? * How do I learn to love what and whom God loves?

Jonah | Love The World - Jonah, How are You Doing, Really?
What is Jonah feeling throughout this traumatic adventure? He seems to move quickly from rest to stress, from happy contentment to burning anger (Jonah 4:16). How are his feelings connected to his thinking and beliefs? How do our feelings either restrict or release our ability to love both God and others? And do our thoughts and emotions move us to action, to real expression of love?

Jonah | Love The World - Jonah, What Were You Thinking?
What was Jonah thinking when he jumped on a ship to escape God? Even the pagan sailors are in disbelief (Jonah 1: 10). What is Jonah thinking as he goes below deck to sleep, say's 'throw me overboard', sinks deep into the sea, hangs out the belly of the fish (or Sheol) for a few days, walks 400 miles to Nineveh, preaches judgement and then awaits compassion instead? What are the beliefs and thoughts that drive this eccentric prophet? And how might they contrast the mind of God? How does our thinking either restrict or release our ability to love both God and others?

Jonah | Love the World - Big Fish ... small worm
The short book of Jonah contrasts: God’s power with Jonah’s disobedience and God's compassion with Jonah’s prejudice. This Sunday was a FAMILY SPECIAL with fun for all ages. We continued with 'Jonah - Love the World' and looked at how both a BIG FISH and a small worm can be messages of God's love.

Jonah | Love the World - Jonah, Are You For Real?
An introduction to the book and prophet, Jonah. Is the story of Jonah for real or an allegory? Sounds like’ the tale of a whale’ (Jonah 1:17). Amidst miracles both massive and tiny is this short book’s purpose to contrast God’s power with Jonah’s disobedience, or His compassion with Jonah’s prejudice? Why has God included this very unique and unusual prophetic book in his word to us?

Jonah | Love the World - A Prophet of Israel & Sign of Jesus
This week we start looking at the story of Jonah. Why? Loving the World is a big deal for us at CBC because it's a big deal for Jesus. He loves this world, and we are included in 'His world' that He loves. To love God, is to love each other, is to love the World, for we are loved. The story of Jonah will help us understand this some more. In Jonah over the coming weeks we will answer questions like: * Is it right for Me to love the world? * What do I THINK and FEEL about my world? * HOW will I love my world?

Love The World
The past 18 months we have been seeking to discover God's love, or we might say 'God's love is discovering us'. His love brings us into a circle of relationship with Him in which we grow in loving Him... to then find within us a love for one another. This love is an outward expression of our love for Him. The circle of His Love widens. What if the circle of the love of God has no end? How wide can it go?

IN LIFE- The Goodness of People
CBC's vision is to be a growing, multicultural community who love God, Love each other and Love the world. We think this is so important that for the last year and a bit we have been talking about and exploring God's love for us and shortly about His love for the world. This Sunday we took a journey of love and and explored what God can do.

WOMAN - What does the Bible story have to say?
This is the third and final on our exploration of whether women can be in the senior leadership roles of Elder, Teacher and Pastor in the local church today? Throughout the bible narrative, both Old and New Testament, we have accounts of men and women in leadership. On Sunday we are asking how does this narrative in the Bible Story apply to the role of women in the church. The is one of 3 messages that are part of CBC's review on what the Bible teaches about appointing women to the position of Elders, Pastors and Teachers in the local church.

WOMAN - Submission and Headship, what's that all about?
Ephesians 5:21-33 gives instruction to husbands and wives about ‘the way of love’ in their relationships. The language of submission and headship are used here in the family. This language is also used concerning the role of men and women in the church in 1 Corinthians 11:1-16, and in 1 Timothy 2:11-15. This week we will look at these two ideas, and how they could be interpreted and applied to the church today The is one of 3 messages that are part of CBC's review on what the Bible teaches about appointing women to the position of Elders, Pastors and Teachers in the local church.

WOMAN - Created Order or Created Equal
Both Genesis 1-2 and Galatians 3, speak of the equality of men and women at creation, and as new creations in Christ. This does not mean that man and woman are identical or the same, but of equal value and standing with each other, and with God. Does this mean they equally share the same roles or functions in the church, or are any of these unique to gender? This week began to explore the two main views on this discussion and consider whether the diversity of roles of men and women was part of God’s creative design or a result of The Fall. The is one of 3 messages that are part of CBC's review on what the Bible teaches about appointing women to the position of Elders, Pastors and Teachers in the local church.

EPHESIANS | You Look Familiar
So what does all this ‘way of love’ actually look like at home and in the workplace? And hey what does this word ‘submit’ have to do with loving? Sounds like slavery and abuse to me. Yes, but let’s not forget that there is one who became a servant and was abused for us … his name is Jesus!
