Graciela Gonzales, or Grace as those close to her call her, is part of a fourth generation of tequila makers, but that doesn’t mean she was handed her job on a “blanco”...ahem... silver platter. Working her way up from the warehouse to a certified spirits sommelier specializing in tequila, she has an intimate knowledge of the spirit coupled with an impeccable palette.
Her family has been distilling for a very long time, but now in the El Mayor family, they have grown quickly enough to warrant a brand new distillery for additional production. Hand harvested agave with no diffusers used, the El Mayor tequila lineup ranges from a Blanco all the way to Extra Anejo, with a less often explored Cristalino offering as well. We tasted the entire lineup with Grace as well as talked about production, process, and innovation with new types of barrel finishing on tequila coming soon.
