What do you think of when you think of Tennessee? Barbeque? Country Music? That bright orange and white colors of the state football team? Kentucky gets a lot of attention when it comes to whiskey, but it’s neighbor state to the south has a term all to its own: “Charcoal Mellowed”.
That is a specific designation unique to the state, governed by the Lincoln County Process and laws protecting what can and can’t be called Tennessee Whiskey. We are talking today about that process as well as the unique state distribution laws with spirits veteran Jonathan Roth. He joined us for a video portion of the podcast to talk Tennessee, and taste through one of the three Chattanooga whiskey bottles sent to us.
Then, Seth and I hop off the call to taste the rest of the Chattanooga lineup, as well as two single barrel selects from possibly the most famous Tennessee distillery, Jack Daniel’s. Finally, we knocked on heaven’s door and Bob Dylan answered...with his 10 year old Tennessee bourbon, a notorious bottle that is trading at a serious multiple of its original price.
We’re here to learn a little bit, and drink a little bit, so grab a glass and let’s enjoy.
