006 Parque de la protesta (Español)
Seguidamente me encuentro caminando a través de este parque particular en el
centro de Los Ángeles durante el medio día cuando el sol pega directamente. Sé que tiene un nombre oficial, pero nunca puedo recordarlo. Todos que conozco lo llaman "Parque de Protesta". Esta vez es medio de Marzo, cuando en Los Ángeles la temperatura es calida y luego se enfría cuando el sol comienza esconderse detrás de los edificios. Al entrar el parque, por la entrada noroeste, tengo una visión general de todo.
Los hermosos árboles, el color vibrante de los pétalos moradas de Jacaranda que cubren el suelo. Cuando las flores florecen, se ve todos los diferentes colores que se muestran. Me gusta sentarme en los bancos debajo de los árboles y dejar que mi mente se escape al cielo.

006 Protest Park (English)
I often find myself walking through this particular Downtown Los Angeles Park around noon where the sun directly hits. I know there is an official name for the park, but I can never remember it. Everyone I know just calls it “Protest Park”. It’s the middle of March where in Los Angeles the temperature is warm and then cools once the sun starts hiding behind the buildings. As I enter the park through the northwestern entrance, I have an overview of the space and admire at the purple Jacaranda petals that blanket the ground. I like to sit on the benches underneath the trees and let my mind escape into the sky.

005 DACA (Español) fijo
DACAmentado. Nos buscaremos en un tema del que raramente se habla, el tema delicado de DACA. Hoy estamos explorando las circunstancias en torno al programa DACA, que es un acrónimo de Acción Diferida para los Llegados en la infancia. Realizaremos un viaje que la mayoría de nosotros nunca experimentaremos personalmente. Tenemos el privilegio de escuchar un viaje personal de un “DACAmentado”.
Es posible que algunos solo hayan escuchado el acrónimo DACA y es posible que no tengan muy claro qué es realmente. Describiré algunos detalles. Según el Consejo Estadounidense de Inmigración (American Immigration Council), “DACA es un ejercicio de discreción fiscal, que brinda alivio temporal de la deportación (acción diferida) y autorización de trabajo a ciertos inmigrantes jóvenes indocumentados que fueron traídos a los Estados Unidos cuando eran niños”. Ahora, en un idioma mas practico y normal, entiendo que eso significa que ayudan a los niños que fueron traídos a los Estados Unidos, antes de que fueran mayores de edad. DACA es un acrónimo de Acción Diferida para los Llegados en la Infancia. Es un programa creado por la administración Obama con el propósito de aliviar la presión sobre los inmigrantes jóvenes. DACA ha permitido que los adultos jóvenes elegibles trabajen legalmente, asistan a la escuela y vivan la vida sin la amenaza de deportación.

005 DACA (English)
We’ll dive into a topic that is rarely talked about, the sensitive subject of DACA. Today we are exploring the circumstances around the DACA program which is an acronym for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. We will be taking a journey that most of us will never experience personally. We have the privilege to hear a personal “DACAmented” journey.
Some may have only heard the acronym DACA and may not be very clear on what it really is. I will describe a few details. According to the American Immigration Council, “DACA is an exercise of prosecutorial discretion, providing temporary relief from deportation (deferred action) and work authorization to certain young undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children.” Now in normal English, I take that to mean that they help children who were brought to the US, before they were of legal age. DACA is an acronym for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. It is a program created by the Obama administration for the purpose of taking pressure off young immigrants. DACA has allowed eligible young adults to lawfully work, attend school, and live life without the threat of deportation.

En el episodio de la semana pasada de la serie de podcasts, hablamos del tema de Recuperar y Redefinir. En el tema de es episodio, se discutió cómo es importante considerar un cambio en el paisaje basado en un cambio social, daño en el entorno construido o una pandemia global al redefinir y recuperar un paisaje.
¡Hola a todos! Me gustaría darles la bienvenida a todos a nuestro cuarto episodio del Bravely Curious Podcast. En este episodio, nos enfocaremos en la importancia de proteger y preservar nuestro paisaje. Pero primero, debemos definir las diferencias entre Preservar y Proteger en el paisaje. Preservar es proteger, cuidar, y defender, mientras que proteger es mantener a salvo, defender, custodiar; contra las actividades humanas nocivas que han alterado la cultura, el clima y la biodiversidad de las plantas y los animales. Con eso en mente, hemos dividido nuestra discusión en tres partes. El primer tema cubrirá las culturas indígenas, el segundo tema sera sobre la biodiversidad de animales, plantas y el medio ambiente. Y por último, el tema que abla acerca del cambio climático en el paisaje.

On last week's episode of The Bravely Curious Podcast, the topic of Reclaiming and Redefining was covered. It discussed how change in the landscape based on societal shift, damage in built environments, and how a global pandemic is important to consider when redefining and reclaiming a landscape.
Hello everyone! My name is Ryan Ortiz, and I would like to welcome you all to our fourth episode of the Bravely Curious Podcast. In this episode we will be immersing ourselves into the importance of protecting and preserving our public and private landscape. But first we must define the differences between Preservation and Protection in the landscape. To preserve is to protect, to keep, to maintain the condition of; while to protect is to keep safe, to defend, to guard; against harmful human activities that have disrupted culture, climate and biodiversity of plant and animals. With that in mind we have separated our discussion into three parts. The first topic will cover indigenous cultures, followed by the second topic on the biodiversity of animals, plants, and the environment. And lastly, the topic of addressing the issues of climate change within the landscape.

¡Hola a todos! Bienvenido al segundo episodio del podcast Bravely Curious, donde los estudiantes del Departamento de Arquitectura Paisajista de la Universidad Cal Poly Pomona continuarán la discusión como lo presentó Maci del Podcast Landscape Nerd sobre el robo, recuper, redefinir y la proteger los espacios públicos y privados. En este episodio, profundizaremos en el pecado original de la arquitectura del paisaje, que se basa en el tema del robo de tierras.
Anteriormente, Maci definío el robo para nosotros como un acto de tomar ilegalmente o sin permiso. También habló sobre la necesidad de que hablemos, confrontemos y revelemos la verdad detrás de las fallas e injusticias del pasado de nuestra nación. Que ya no podemos escondernos detrás de temas tan sensibles o controversial, ya no podemos preocuparnos por el miedo al enfrentamiento y la apropiación de nuestras faltas. Estamos aquí simplemente para presentar estos problemas, ponerlos sobre la mesa y decir, “esto es lo que estamos tratando, así es como esto sigue siendo un problema hoy, y esto es lo que podemos hacer como arquitectos paisajistas para reconocer y resolver estos asuntos."

002 Landscapes Original Sin (English)
Hello everyone! Welcome to the second episode of the Bravely Curious podcast where students from Cal Poly Pomona’s Landscape Architecture Department will continue the discussion as introduced by Maci from the Landscape Nerd Podcast about stealing, reclaiming, redefining, and protecting public and private spaces. In this episode, we will be delving into Landscape Architecture’s Original Sin which is based around the topic of stealing land.
Previously, Maci defined stealing for us as theft, to take unlawfully or without permission. She also discussed the need for us to talk about, confront, and unveil the truth behind the flaws and injustices of our nation’s past. That we can no longer hide behind such topics that are sensitive or controversial, we can no longer worry ourselves with the fear of confrontation and ownership of our faults. We are here to simply present these issues, lie them on the table and say, “here is what we are dealing with, here is how this is still a problem today, and this is what we can do as landscape architects to acknowledge and resolve these issues.”
