Making the Leap to Full-time Coaching

Becoming a Career Coach Through Hosting Events
As I talk with people about how they got into coaching, it’s always interesting to hear about all the different ways.
It reminds me that there is no one path to becoming a coach.
Our guest on the How to Become a Career Coach podcast today started as a marketer that was terrible with analytics but was great with the psychology aspects. He got tired of the networking events he attended and started hosting his own events that fostered great conversation. These events led to elevator pitch coaching, then to Personal brand coaching, and then a podcast. Through the podcast, he met people at the Muse, which brought him on as a career coach.
That was just the beginning, though. It took years before he took his coaching full-time, and he’s going to share how a 6-month review at work led him to realize that his coaching on the side is what actually fit his life.

The Tipping Point of Your First 10 Paid Coaching Clients
Tara Padua faced her fear of becoming a career coach.
Yes, she had many instances in her life that pointed to her skills and abilities as a coach.
Yes, she had proven to be successful doing coaching sessions.
But creating a full-time business was terrifying to her.
But Tara knew that it was the right move to make.
She created a plan that if she could get 10 paid clients successfully for six months, and save up six months worth of salary, then she would resign.
It was an arbitrary goal at the time, but she felt like she needed a little runway just in case she didn’t get enough new clients.
Those 10 paid clients made a huge difference in her coaching business and life.

There's a Reason Free Coaching Doesn't Work
"There’s a reason why free gym memberships don’t work: if you don’t put your own skin in the game, you aren’t going to prioritize it in your own life."
That's a quote from Alex Durand, our guest on the How to Become a Career Coach podcast.

Going From an Emotional Breakdown to Breakthrough
Allison was on the How to Become a Career Coach podcast about two months ago. She shared a lot about her journey to become a career coach, which started by going through our Career Change Bootcamp (CCB) program, where she identified that career coaching was her direction.

What If It's Possible for You, too?
Many people that think their dream is impossible.
Sharissa Sebastian had been in the tech industry for years, but was wanting to make a transition out of that field.
She was eventually introduced to coaching through Groupon.
Her coach began talking with her about what her ideal situation would look like, but she was holding herself back. She didn't think that "ideal" wouldn't be realistic.
But Sharissa's coach asked her, "But what if it is possible?"

Creating Your Own Coaching Model
"How do you determine what to charge for coaching?"

Out of all the examples of career coaches that I've shared with you, many of them didn't realize their passion for coaching until they were in their career for at least a few years (sometimes a couple decades).
Sarah is an exception to that. She identified her desire to "help individuals find careers where they thrive" when she was 21 and in college.

Starting Your Coaching Business by Leaning In
Last week, I shared a conversation I had with our Director of Client Success, Phillip. Specifically, I shared that the fact that too many coaches try to learn everything, and this one things trips up new coaches and delays their ability to help and impact people's lives.

When You Feel That Something is Missing
“My overall definition of success is helping other people succeed.”
Allison Curbow has staked this claim for herself. Her journey to become a career coach started only 18 months ago.
Allison went from being a person with a background that was scattered between different industries, and who lived in an environment where entrepreneurship was considered a scary and alien entity.

She was Terrified but Started Career Coaching Anyway
I have gotten to know Christie Mims over the over the years and really respect the business that she's built around career coaching around helping people with their careers in a variety of different ways. I’m Scott Anthony Barlow and I started Happen To Your Career in 2012 because I wanted to help people make big career changes, advance their careers, learn how take control of their life and work, but most of all to help people find and do work that makes them more happy more often and uses what we call their signature strengths
Since that time, we’ve been able to help many thousands of people make changes that not only impacted their careers and their income, but helped to radically change their lives.
I haven’t done this by myself. Along the way, I’ve trained others how to be career coaches as well.
We’ve done this by creating a Professional Career coaching Training and certification program to help give people additional training and support as they got started as career coaches.
