178 | Aimee Morrisby, IVF, Sister Surrogacy Birth Story
Play • 1 hr 19 min
In this week’s episode I talk to Aimee who was born with Hirschsprung's disease, a congenital bowel disease that led to over 50 operations and procedures by the time she was 7. In her early twenties, she was advised to start trying for a baby as her reproductive organs were ageing at a rapid rate and after failing to fall pregnant naturally, she started a challenging, long and deflating IVF journey. Years later, after 8 attempts and the conscious decision to stop trying, Aimee’s sister offered to be a surrogate. Aimee’s experience is unique and achingly beautiful; a story of resilience, sisterhood and the ultimate, most magical gift.

A podcast targeted at mums, just like you! A place to have real conversations with honest and authentic people.  In our fifty-eighth episode of Beyond the Bump, we chat to Luka McCabe. We talk to her all about getting prepared for the hospital, what to expect and what to pack! We hope you absolutely love this episode! If you would like to get your hands on Luka’s, ‘a midwife’s guide to packing your hospital bag’, you can download it for FREE by clicking HERE. *Goodies mentioned:* Tena and Depend adult diapers Modi Bodi  Deiji Studios Love To Dream Sleep Suit  Nutra organics bone broth Follow us on Instagram at @beyondthebump.podcast to stay up to date with behind the scenes and future episodes. This episode of Beyond the Bump is brought to you by Fisher-Price: A massive thank you for Fisher-Price’s ongoing support and sponsorships of our wonderful podcast.  For those of you who haven't listened to our bespoke five-part miniseries for Fisher-Price, head to any of the podcast apps and you can catch up on any of the Beyond Play episodes there. You will not be disappointed.   We chatted to Fisher-Price Play Lab experts during these episodes about different milestones and helpful ways to play with your children at each stage of life. We also chatted to inspirational mothers, Turia Pitt and Jacinta Franklin about all things motherhood.  My personal favourite parts were their My Kids Did What and Parenting Confession segments because it made us all feel normal when our kids completely humiliate us, or when we completely screw up as parents.   We've been super lucky to work with Fisher-Price over the last year and we've really gotten to know and love their range of amazing products.  We’d like to highlight a collection of their amazing toys they called Linkimals. They're a super cute way to teach little ones about shapes, counting colours and first words. What could be better than a kid learning to count from a sloth?  And what's better? When Linkimals animals get together, they all talk to each other. They sing, they light up. It's like a real-life Toy Story.  If you have an infant or toddler, nine months or old, Linkimals is perfect for hands-on play, helping your bubs learn shapes, colours, numbers, and so much more.  You can check out the full range of Fisher-Price Linkimals at Target.

Donald Betts // From the streets to the Senate to solicitor life
Welcome back lovely yay-borhood! I won't talk too much as we have the first of a new more conversational segment coming soon when I’ll have many more words for you about the new year, so allow me introduce our first guest for 2021, *Donald Betts* – our first guest with a political background as well as the first who moved TO law to seize his yay rather than away from it. We recorded just before the break last year and I’m so glad I waited to edit and release this one because I too needed to hear this (with fresh ears) to get my motivation back and I can’t wait for you all to as well. I am inspired by all of our guests in different ways, but occasionally I get truly bowled over and there are SO many reasons why I think Don will do the same for you – from his resolve to escape the life of gun violence and gang wars he grew up in (which very few of us can comprehend), to becoming the youngest Senator to serve in the history of Kansas, and from leaving politics to find his yay in law to the RIDICULOUSLY romantic way he speaks about meeting his wife…. But he tells it so beautifully himself with remarkable humility, self-awareness and the manners of an absolute gentleman, so I’ll stop myself there and let you listen for yourself. >>> *LISTEN TO GREENLAND THE PODCAST* <<< + Follow *Donald Betts** *here + Announcements on Insta at *@spoonful_of_sarah* + *Join our Facebook community here* + Subscribe to not miss out on the next instalment of YAY!

IUGR: How do you know if your baby is too small?
At your antenatal appointments, from about 20 weeks of your pregnancy you will (…should) be having some monitoring of your baby’s growth. Firstly, by the simple tape measure test, up over your tummy to the top of your uterus and then by ultrasound if needed. What we are trying to determine is if your baby is small for dates. This is known as Intrauterine Growth Restriction or IUGR. In this podcast we talk about: * What is EFW or estimated fetal weight * How EFW is measured and the measurement accuracy. * What other ways we measure your baby's health * Problems that can arise if your baby is diagnose with IUGR * What plans need to be made if your baby is measuring small for dates. * When sometimes... you just have a small baby. Why did we start this podcast? Well we think there is a barrier for women to get EXPERT pregnancy info that is practical, relatable and easy to understand. Dr Pat has helped 1000s of women have their babies and through this we know that this kind of information given to a woman at the right time can totally change her experience of pregnancy and birth. We invite you to be our part of our family over on Instagram @grow_my_baby or UP LEVEL your knowledge and support by joining our program at www.growmybaby.com.au And a BIG thank you for listening to ‘The Kick’ and please if you haven’t already please subscribe (iTunes) or follow (Spotify) and share with a friend.
