175 | Bridget High Risk Pregnacy Blood Clots, Clexane
Play • 1 hr 12 min
In this week’s episode I interview Bridget from @midnightmums about her third pregnancy and postpartum experience. Bridget had been so excited about having another baby and yet for the first half of her pregnancy she was absolutely floored by nausea, exhaustion and breathlessness. She came up with a myriad of excuses for herself and simply put it down to tiredness and the reality of growing a baby and looking after two busy boys. However, when she mentioned her breathing troubles to her OB, alarms bells rang and he sent her for a myriad of tests. She was diagnosed with blood clots on the lungs and had to endure twice-daily injections of blood thinning medication for the rest of her pregnancy and till three-months postpartum.

Big Sister Hotline: S2E5, Feat. CARA MACB
CONTENT NOTE: This episode contains discussion of fatphobia, eating disorders and disordered eating, sexual experiences involving men’s desires that may be triggering for some people Hurrah! This week’s episode features the amazing Cara MacB, creator of the brilliant “OBCC Helpline”. As Nanny MacB, she uses TikTok and Instagram to call out fatphobia in an hysterically funny way. We have an incredible conversation in this episode about how people end up co-opted into internalised systems of hatred: internalised fatphobia, misogyny and adherence to patriarchy. Cara and I discuss the choices we can make as parents to change the patterns we both learned about food and bodies when we were growing up and the concept of loving the inside of your body as well as the outside. What does it mean for our relationships with other women - and in particular, our mothers - when we make the (sometimes scary!) choice to walk away from diet culture. From little sisters, we answered questions about what makes a ‘decent’ man (for those of us unfortunate enough to be attracted to them lololol) and what to do if your new boyfriend’s sexual repertoire is not just out of a porn handbook but how self care extends to the kind of sex we’re willing to tolerate.  I really love this episode and I know you will too! IN CONVERSATION: Celeste Barber
Happy Mondaaaaay everybody! Today on the show, we bring you the remarkable Celeste Barber. We have no doubt you know precisely who Celeste is - she does have 10 million followers across Instagram and Facebook - but we’ll introduce her to you anyway. Celeste began her career as an actress, but over the last six years, has channeled her talent for making people think and laugh into a movement she calls ‘Challenge Accepted’. The premise is simple and brilliant; via her Instagram page, Celeste parodies the content Instagram has become synonymous for - exceedingly thin, obscenely famous women posing in unrealistic and sometimes downright bizarre ways. Celeste’s comedy has made her a local and international sensation: she’s graced the likes of In Style Magazine, penned a best-selling memoir, is the new face of MCoBeauty, and is practically taking over the world, one post at a time. In this chat, we wanted to hear about Celeste’s life before fame, the awkward stages of pursuing a career in the public eye, her relationship with rejection and failure, and what it’s like to build a business off the back of being yourself. For more from Celeste, follow her on Instagram at @celestebarber and check out her podcast, Celeste and Her Best. If you enjoyed this episode, we recommend you listen to our chat with fellow comedian Celia Pacquola. Dinesh Palipana // Double degrees, defying the odds and Doctors with Disabilities
Today’s guest was actually a yayborhood nomination from one of our most active contributors affectionately known as Dana Saurus or Dana Pham. Dana so generously sent a whole list of suggestions for guests a while back and this is one that has finally come to fruition. She is the founder of Junior Doctor’s Corner and is a doctor herself working to provide much needed support to junior doctors entering the world of medicine and discuss important topics that are often dismissed or taboo. JDC also has its own podcast so make sure to check that out if there are any other young doctors listening in. Her nomination also hails from the medical world but is not only a doctor, he is one of those rare species who has completed degrees in both medicine AND law – the holy grain combination that very few globally dare to tackle. And if that weren’t enough of a superhuman feat, Dinesh Palipana is also a quadriplegic and disability advocate becoming only the second person with quadriplegia to graduate as a doctor in Australia and the first with a spinal cord injury. Despite a life changing car accident in 2010, Dinesh now works in the Emergency Department of Gold Coast University Hospital and has co-foundedDoctors with Disabilities with two of his colleagues. He tells the story so beautifully himself so I’ll stop there but I hope you find his zest for life and indelible positivity as uplifting as I did. Ps The audio is a bit dicky at times – the joys of Zoom strike again – so excuse a few spots where it’s a bit muffled.

Will achieving your goals actually make you happier?
It probably sounds like a strange question to ask, but there's a reason I'm asking it. Sure, there's an undeniable sense of fulfilment and accomplishment that comes with achieving a goal you've been working towards for a while, but if we're all being honest, how long did you actually stop and let that win sink in for? Did you even stop at all? Or were you too busy working towards the next big goal? Why are we all so quick to set up a new target once we have reached our old one? Perhaps it's because we think that constantly hitting targets and reaching goals will make us happier, more confident, more valued and respected by others, more successful, more worthy, more fulfilled. Why else would we set goals, right? But if you look back on your life right now, on all that you've achieved, did the accumulation of those achievements culminate in a better quality of life? Or did you kind of forget about them? Were those goals set in the interest of finding happiness, or feeding the ego? All of this is not to say that goals aren't important - quite the opposite - it's to encourage you to reflect on all of these questions, to stop and appreciate all that you have already achieved, to audit your future goals and decipher whether or not they are feeding the soul or the ego, and subsequently whether or not they're worth reaching for. If you'd like to hear my in-depth thoughts about it all, listen in :) And if you enjoyed the episode, please don't forget to subscribe, rate and review. Thank you x
