Clay is joined by Anna Paulina Luna to talk about the experience of running for Congress, what to expect from her and the Republican Party, the state of the election results and whether 2021 will be the year when we finally start to get along.  But first we’ll have to collectively decide on a winner.  Can we?

Host:
Clay Aiken has sold 6 million albums, authored a New York Times bestseller, and ran for Congress in North Carolina in 2014.

Guest:
Anna Paulina Luna ran for election to the U.S. House to represent Florida's 13th Congressional District. She is a strong independent leader, earning her stripes by serving her country, not by serving herself. Raised by a single mother in Southern California's low-income neighborhoods, Anna learned that she must work hard and be independent to succeed. Anna joined the Air Force at age 19, earning the Air Force Achievement Medal. She spent a total of six years in the military, including five on active duty. She is a small business owner with a degree in Biology. Her husband, Andy, is a special forces operator at MacDill Air Force Base.  They met in the Air Force and live in St. Petersburg. Anna is a passionate advocate for veterans.  She experienced firsthand the pitfalls of our veteran care system after enemy combatants shot Andy in Afghanistan.  Andy is a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient.

Ep. 323: The American News Media And a Crisis of Journalistic Imagination
Leon Krauze is a news anchor on Univision’s KMEX station in Los Angeles. His writing and other work on U.S. politics and immigration has been featured by such leading publications as The New Yorker, The Daily Beast, Foreign Affairs, The New Republic, Foreign Policy, Newsweek, the Los Angeles Times, and The Washington Post. Krauze formerly held the Wallis Annenberg Chair in Journalism at USC. Krauze reflects on the unhealthy state of the American news media in the Age of Trump and beyond. He also shares why the country’s reporters and journalists need to ground their writing and truth-telling in the life experiences of everyday people – and not just the insular voices of their peer group and the country’s elites. Krauze also explains why the American corporate news media was and continues to be addicted to stories about the "white working class” instead of focusing on nonwhite people and others. Chauncey DeVega does some reflecting and contemplation during a blizzard about the winter of discontent that is America’s failing democracy, Trump’s impeachment and rigged “trial”, and how the Republican Party is now full-on endorsing right-wing terrorism and other political violence. And Chauncey has a great time exposing the hypocrisy of the apparent white supremacist Republican congresswoman anti-Semite conspiracist Christian fascist Trump cult member Marjorie Taylor Greene and her alleged extramarital affairs including one with a tantric sex guru bodybuilder sword master video game cosplayer who looks like “Zangief” from the Street Fighter series.
