Secrets of the Princess Diana tapes
Play • 1 hr
Princess Diana’s wedding to Prince Charles looked like a fairytale - but she would go on to describe it as the worst day of her life.
She made that confession in interviews recorded with a friend for Andrew Morton’s famous biography Diana: Her True Story.
Extracts of those tapes were released after her death - but it would be another 20 years before Morton was persuaded to release fuller extracts for a documentary, and another three years before The Crown: Season 4 really brought that film, Diana: In Her Own Words, to viewers’ attention.
Pod Save The Queen host Ann Gripper is joined by filmmaker Tom Jennings to discuss what Diana had to say, and how Tom came to retell her story.

Podcast 63 – Meghan and Harry post ideas for Acts of Compassion for IWD 2021
Over the past weekend some changes were made to Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Foundation website. Meghan and Harry are also using their website to promote International Women’s Day that will take place on March 8th. This is not the first year that Meghan either as a working or non-working Royal has celebrated International Women’s Day. International Women’s day dates back to the early 1900’s with the early focus being on obtaining rights for women to votes. The United Nations began celebrating International Women's Day in the International Women's Year, 1975. In 1977, the United Nations General Assembly invited member states to proclaim March 8 as the UN Day for women's rights and world peace. *Every year has a theme and for 2021 the theme is Choose To Challenge.* Meghan and Harry’s approach on their website is somewhat different. Continuing their theme of Compassion in Action, the couple are encouraging their followers  in the month of March to unleash a groundswell of real acts of compassion for the women in our lives and in our communities. *https://www.archewell.com/iwd*  To make things easy, Meghan and Harry have included links to various non-profits on their website and you can click these to learn more about some of the domestic and international organizations that are active in advocating for women and children, and you can also make donations or shop from the websites of the various charities.  What we are learning is that Harry and Meghan are back on a roll. When they were working Royals, they used their Sussex Royal Instagram account to raise awareness to causes and charities that many of us hadn’t heard of.  It seems that Meghan and Harry as non-working Royals are relaunching this initiative, but using their Archewell Foundation website as the means to get their messages out. *Those of you listening from America and Canada, don’t forget to set your TV pre-recorders for the CBS Interview between Oprah, Meghan and Harry. * *Keep looking out for future podcasts on all things Meghan, Harry and Archie and checking my blog at  **www.kindthoughtsformeghanmarkle.com*

If so, this is the podcast for you. Top Quotes: “That was the most difficult thing during the lockdown. Everyone had to isolate. It was actually very lonely.” - Lady Derby  “It’s hard to describe a stately home life without realising it is very co-dependent.” - Lady Derby  “Having people in the home brings life to the house.” - Lady Derby “I have been totally reliant on the community I work with to find my way.” - Lady Derby “What these homes are really about is the community.” - The Duchess of Rutland About the Guest: Lady Derby, born Caroline Emma Neville, grew up in the stately home Audley End of the historic House of Neville. She studied History and History of Art in London City University before working as Assistant Surveyor to the Queen’s Pictures. She met her husband Edward Stanley, 9th Earl of Derby, in 1994. The couple would marry and have three children.  Knowsley Hall was built in the 1500s and has housed the Stanely’s for 500 years.  The Stanley’s are one of the most illustrious families in British history, with famous knights, prime ministers, and politicians all hailing lineage. The Derby race was named after them, as is The Stanley Cup in hockey. Now visitors flock to Knowsley Hall all year round to enjoy its many works of art, events and safari park.  About the Host: Emma Rutland, The Duchess of Rutland, did not always stride the halls of stately homes. Born Emma Watkins, the Duchess grew up the daughter of a Quaker farmer, in the Welsh marsh countryside. She trained as an opera singer in the Guildhall School of Music, and worked as a successful interior designer before meeting her future husband David Manners, the 11th Duke of Rutland, at a dinner party. Their marriage in 1992 would transform Emma Watkins into the 11th Duchess of Rutland, thrusting her into the world of aristocracy, and handing her the responsibility of one of the nation's great treasures: Belvoir Castle. While simultaneously running the day to day operations of the castle, and raising five children, The Duchess became fascinated with the history and importance of the other stately homes of the UK. Join The Duchess as she embarks on a wonderful journey through time, to learn more about the incredible homes that have defined Great Britain and, most importantly, meet the other extraordinary women who work tirelessly behind their doors to preserve their history and magic for future generations.  Resources: https://www.belvoircastle.com/ (https://www.belvoircastle.com/) https://www.onefineplay.com/ (https://www.onefineplay.com/) https://knowsleyhallvenue.co.uk/ (https://knowsleyhallvenue.co.uk/) https://www.emmaduchessrutland.com/ (https://www.emmaduchessrutland.com/)
