Introducing 'Gaining Ground: The New Georgia' [TFTV x Crooked Media]
Play • 47 min

The future of democracy as we know it hinges on the outcome of two Senate races in a state that shocked the nation by turning blue for the first time in nearly three decades.

Georgia is the center of the political universe after organizers from John Lewis to Stacey Abrams spent years battling some of the country’s most brutal voter suppression with a young, diverse coalition that’s finally ready to take power.

Visit the frontlines of the most pivotal Senate contest of our time as two of Atlanta’s own – journalists Rembert Browne and Jewel Wicker detail what made this historic moment possible and talk to the key organizers, strategists, and voters who are hoping to see years of hard work change the South forever.

“Gaining Ground: The New Georgia” is a co-production of Tenderfoot TV and Crooked Media.

88: Jacob Landin
New Mexico ranks among the worst states in the United States for child abuse deaths, with more than three per 100,000 children. From 2001 to 2016, more than 22 children in New Mexico ranging from 5 weeks old to 11-years-old have been killed as the result of physical and sexual abuse. While these statistics are extremely alarming, critics say that the numbers are severely underestimated. Among the issues within the state’s embattled child welfare agency are staffing problems as well as increasing and overwhelming caseloads. In 1987, nine-month-old Jacob Landin tragically passed away after becoming the victim of a child abuser. Over three decades later, his family are still fighting for justice. The Unknown Person
"...the Unknown Person considers himself to be the director of a play and Canadian authorities are but actors subject to his direction." In April of 2013, following an investigation into a "black money" scam, Toronto Police Services arrested 32-year-old Herman Emmanuel Fankem, a French citizen that had overstayed his visitor's visa and supposedly gotten caught up in an organized crime ring. However, as police began to dive into this man's backstory, they discovered that his passport was a total forgery. In the years since, this man has refused to divulge any information about himself to authorities, and appears to be fully uncooperative - if not combative. For that reason, his identity continues to remain a total mystery...
