The guest this episode is Jamie Crummie. He is the co-founder and director of Too Good To Go – an app that tackles food waste by making surplus food from restaurants, cafes and bakeries that would otherwise be thrown away available for collection at massively reduced prices.
Their mission is to save food, save money and save the planet and the vision driving them is of a world where all food produced is food consumed. The app is currently available in 6 countries, has 4500 partner stores, and has saved 1.6m meals from being binned while avoiding over 3000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
Too Good To Go is already live in numerous cities and towns across the UK and is growing fast. The app is free to download on iTunes or Google Play and more details can be found on their website: toogoodtogo.co.uk
Our conversation ran for quite a while so I decided to release it in 2 installments as a bit of an experiment. This first part goes into detail about how the app works, where the inspiration came from, how the business started and begins to get into the scale of the issues it is trying to address. The rest of the conversation will be released next week, so tune in then to hear their plans for the future and much more.
