There are a few reasons the number 33 has some significance for this mix. Firstly, there are 33 tracks on it which is about double the number of tracks my mixes would normally have. That’s because it’s taken me much longer than normal to get this mix recorded. I’d been meaning to do it for a couple of months but life got in the way. Secondly, 33 revolutions per minute is what a record spins at on a turntable. If you don’t know what a record is, ask your parents or look it up on the intergoogle. And thirdly, I’ll be thirty-three years of age in a couple of weeks. How the fuck did that happen? Take note, kids, one minute you’re 18, next minute you’re in your mid-thirties.
There are some pretty great tracks on this. The Gorgon City track with Jennifer Hudson is all kinds of amazing. It’s the winter’s “Won’t Look Back” [see the previous mix for that magical track]. Also thrown in for a bit of madness is the Aretha Franklin cover of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” which is pretty damn camp and also, brilliant. But the best thing about it is her performance on David Letterman. Not only is Aretha hilarious but Whitney Houston’s mother, Cissy, gives a university degree in throwing shade while doing the backing vocals. If you haven’t seen it, put your life on pause for a few minutes and watch it.
In other news, I’m still obsessed with spinning. Between it and the healthier eating I’ve lost 10kg since July so I’m pretty happy. Bit more to do but it’s within reach now. Just better not eat too many mince pies over Christmas and undo all the good work.
Anyway, back to the mix, as always I hope you enjoy it. Spread it around; share it on all of your social media outlets if you enjoy it.
Until next time, much love.
