In the past few months, it seems that drag lingo or glingo from the US has made it to this side of the world. I blame both RuPaul and the Scissor Sisters. And I love it! According to urban dictionary, the definition of “werq” is:
An expression used when praising someone […] for looking fierce!
Seems pretty appropriate to me. And in the style of serving fierce, DJ realness, I bring you my latest mix, WERQ.
This is the first mix I’ve recorded that wasn’t mixed with my trusty CDJ 1000’s. I sold them earlier this week and while I’ll miss them immensely, it was time to move on. It seems the evolution of the DJ is going digital. And with that in mind, I’ve switched to a Traktor Kontrol S4 controller for my Mac.
It’s only been a couple of days but already I’m really enjoying it. Burning CDs really was a hassle when I didn’t have to do it every week. Being able to have access to my entire library of tracks through Traktor Pro is really handy and allows me to change things up on the fly. It’s possible to be very creative with loops, samples and effects with the S4 but I kept it simple for this mix. As the months go on, I’ll get more comfortable with the new toys at hand.
In other news, I’ll be DJ-ing for a little bit (with CDs mind you) at The George on St. Stephen’s Night. If you’re in Dublin, drop by and have a few G&Ts and a dance.
All that remains is for me to say, turn it out hunty!
Oh, and don’t forget to share it around.
