Ep. #295. I am a Freemason. Here is my confession.
I've been out of the lodge since 2012, and I do toy with the idea of joining again.
Since 2006, I've heard every accusation against the Masons that I can imagine. The most common is that we run the world and/or worship the devil. What I find is that once peoples minds have been made up, that's it. No discussion can be had.
To diminish the fact that I'm an ACTUAL Mason, it's always the same comment: "you just didn't get high enough to learn the truth". This has ALWAYS been said to me as a statement, never once has anyone ever asked, "did you make it to the highest levels?" People prefer to assume, instead of ask.
I was a Master Mason, sat as a Senior Warden, and was elected to be Master of the lodge, Sherwood #183.
Masonry does not have a vertical hierarchy. Instead, we have a system of lateral progression, which is baffling to most folks. We don't hold office above each other. Instead, we walk WITH each other as guides on our journey.
Our system is a threat to the notion of hierarchal establishments. It's little wonder that we are attacked so often, and so viciously.
Are all Freemasons good people? Nope. Definitely not. Just like EVERY group of people, we have some bad apples, and a whole lot of good eggs. Veterans, Police, Nurses, Trades people, Politicians, ....all are groups of individuals. Some are bad, some are good.
The lessons of freemasonry however are wonderful. Faith, Hope, Charity. Good stuff. Brotherly love, and harmony. Very good stuff.

Ep. #294. What is Emotional Abuse?
What is abuse?
Abusers rarely, if ever realize they are abusive. If you call them out on their behavior, they will often react with something to the tune of, “You’re too sensitive, suck it up, quit your whining”.
If you point out their lack of empathy, they will simply deny your claim and trivialize your concerns. Or, they may justify their lack of empathy by stating that you are not “deserving” of empathy.
Abusers are often heard to be judging others, especially those who disagree with them. Any opposition to their view-point is met with insults of some sort. They’ll say things like:
*
Read a book once in a while (to suggest you are uninformed, or uneducated)
*
Oh, did you read that on the internet? (assuming your source of information is inferior to theirs…even though they use the same methods that you do.)
*
And where did you get YOUR masters degree in this topic? (attacking your credibility, and ignoring the fact that if you can read, or if you can listen to actual experts, then you can be informed. Also…where is THEIR masters degree in the same topic they say you’re not able to have an opinion on?)
*
Or, they will react with a trivializing label to lump you into a category they deem to be inferior to themselves. Such as; conspiracy theorist, lib-tard, far right, far left, tin foil hat, extremist, etc…
Abusers tell you through their actions or words that YOUR opinion does not matter. Your thoughts are not worth consideration, and your voice is not worth listening to. If your thoughts and voice have no value to an abuser, then neither does your very existence.
In every genocide, groups of people have been trivialized as not worth listening to, not worth empathy, not worth the air they breath. It may seem like a leap, to compare a garden variety abuser with a genocidal maniac…but it’s the same. The mentality is the same, the only difference is the degree of abuse. The degree of abuse is proportionate to the power held by the abuser. The greater the power, the greater the abuse.
A dictator who is also an abuser will think nothing of killing those who oppose him, not just because he sees opponents as a threat..but because he sees them as inferior. An abuser feels that those who are inferior, do not have the right to protest, be heard, or to speak out. An abuser is perfectly comfortable marginalizing those they feel are inferior by denying their basic rights of speech, assembly, protest, and movement. All these rights they never give up themselves, but an abuser is comfortable denying others these basic rights.
In relationships, we see abusers removing the voice of the abused. Their victims can’t ever do anything “right”. They will constantly correct, criticize, or complain about their victims. They consistently trivialize, marginalize, and minimize their victims point of view.
When abusers become national leaders, their followers tend to take on the abusive traits of the leader. They parrot the abusive labels, and demonize anyone who opposes the abuser. This is how dictatorships flourish.
We use diagnostic labels such as narcissist, sociopath, etc, but the common denominator is a pattern of abuse. The bottom line is refusing to attempt to understand the lived experience and perspective of others. A lack of, or absence of empathy is the hallmark of an abuser. This lack of empathy manifests as insults and demonization.
One of the obstacles to having empathy, is the lack of understanding of what empathy actually is. Often people conflate empathy with agreement, but this is not the case. You can empathize with someone whom you disagree with. It takes maturity and control of your ego, but it can be done.
A truly mature and confident person finds it easy to be curious about opinions of others which are contrary to their own. A person who lacks confidence finds it unimaginable to be curious about the opinions of those who disagree with them.

Eddie has written over 37 letters to the Minister of National Defence, without any reply. All he wants is for his release to be changed to a medical release, which would be more accurate, and would also open up some doors for him for access to resources. Eddie has been ignored.
Eddie was an officer, and was in Afghanistan. He served his time, and is deserving of being acknowledged.
Please help by sharing this episode with your Member of Parliament, and ask your MP to help Eddie be acknowledged by the Minister of National Defence.

OTR is taking off! The growth curve has started to spike straight up, and Sponsors are starting to line up.
A BIG part of this show is to find a better mouse trap...and I have. 22zero IS that better mousetrap.
22zero uses a form of Neuro Linguistic Programing (NLP) to de-couple memories from their emotional response. Once de-coupled, the PTSD symptoms fade away. Seems to good to be true, I know....but 22zero coaches don't charge for this service, so it's not about the money.
So far, everyone I've coached has gone from a 10/10 SUDS score, to a ZERO. This is unheard of in conventional therapy.
22Zero is NOT therapy...it is coaching. Whatever you want to call it, it works.

When correcting others, try not to spray should all over them.
Shoulding always comes from a place of critical judgment, and not from understanding, respect, and compassion. Shoulding can damage self esteem, create a toxic environment, damage morale, reduce productivity, increase sick-days, and increase employee turnover.
If you replace shoulding with active listening, respect, and compassion, your world will change. Compliance will increase, relationships will be optimal, stress will lower, and everyone will benefit.
This skill is helpful in everyone's life.

The most effective healing I’ve found so far
* Immediate Intervention
* Connection. Speak with someone…ANYONE about what’s going on, how you are feeling. Preferably, someone who is trained at listening. Call a crisis line in your area, or call a friend and say the words, “I need you to talk to you, and I need you to listen”. If you do this, put in the caveat…. ”Please just let me vent, and don’t offer solutions unless I ask…ok?”
Connect with yourself. Get outside, sit on the ground, and breathe deeply for 2 minutes.
If you are having an anxiety attack, find 3 blue things, 3 red things, 3 yellow things in your environment and name them. Then 3 big things, 3 small things, 3 pretty things. This is a grounding exercise.
Also, look at any object, (I prefer horizons) and trace the outline…slowly from right to left, or counter-clockwise if it’s round. Continue..slowly, and focus as much as you can.

Ep. #265. My REAL-LIFE phone call with Veterans Affairs Canada, and its HUGE implications
In this real life phone call with Veterans Affairs Canada I asked:
1. What calls are recorded, and which are not?
2. How long are these recordings kept?
3. Can you record all calls if I want you too?
4. How are clients allotted to Case Managers and Veteran Service Agents?
5. Are CM's and VSA's regional?
The answers to #4 and #5 prove that there was more than one case manager who was offering MAID (medical assistance in dying) to Veterans. The Veterans I know of are in BC, AB, ON, and QC. This means, they received calls from agents who physically resided in BC, AB, ON, and QC.
There is NO WAY that Minister Lawrence MacAulley and Deputy Minister Paul Ledwell didn't know that Case Managers and VSA's were regional. This means, both purposely lied at the Committee on Veterans Affairs on at least 2 occasions.

Andrew Gough is a Canadian Armed Forces veteran, serving reservist and police officer. In 2019, he took part in a campaign within his police service that challenged the stigma of mental health challenges. The ‘Stronger than you know’ campaign shared his and others' stories of mental health struggles to combat the idea that these challenges are a sign of weakness. Through his experiences, he learned that asking for help is a sign of true strength.
He received the Sacrifice Medal for injuries sustained by hostile action/act of terrorism while deployed in Tripoli, Libya during Operation LOBE in 2014. These injuries, along with a career of being exposed to and involved in dangerous and traumatic situations, let to his diagnosis of PTSD in 2015.

Camp Aftermath seeks to support military members, veterans, first responders and Fronline Workers living with PTSD or experiencing mental health problems as a consequence of their duties in public safety roles.
Camp Aftermath is a one-year, three-phase program which includes a screening process in Phase 1, a 6-8 day volunteering and therapeutical activities itinerary in Phase 2, and a one-year follow-up in Phase 3. What they didn’t understand is that it’s not an internal energy source called “drive” that gets people out of bed in the morning. We now have confirmation, that as early as November 2021 MAID was offered to an Active Serving member of the Canadian Armed Forces.
"Bruce" was asking for help with military transition, and PTSD. The VAC service agent pushed Medically Assisted Dying to him...and pushed the issue.

Because nobody ever truly comes home from war. Only a version of yourself returns. A haunted version, whose very soul has been irreversibly stained by the realization that evil is in fact real, and it does indeed cajole decent people into doing awful things.
It’s the understanding of how unspeakably horrible one person can be to another. War forever taints you. Witnessing a flagrant disregard for the sanctity of life is not something you can unsee. It is this stain which affects every aspect of your civilian life, often for the rest of your life.
We remember our soldiers because they bear a terrible burden, so that others will never have to carry the painful weight of freedom.…

Real Strength
Soldiers can go for days without sleep, perform night patrols in the rain, carry crippling heavy loads of gear across multiple miles of treacherous, rugged terrain, and fight heavily armed enemies with complete disregard to their own survival. And they can do it repeatedly for months, or even years on end, holding the line until the war has been won.
When Soldiers finish their watch, and are able to return home, they often find themselves unable to settle into domestic life. People can leave the military, but the military never fully leaves them. A piece of the Veteran will always be a soldier.
Difficulty in transitioning can range from being merely uncomfortable, to being totally devastating to one's life. Relationships usually suffer, employment is often unstable, and isolation is commonly suffered.
This is where REAL Strength is required.

On Monday, October 24th I testified in Ottawa about a Veteran who was offered assisted suicide by Veterans Affairs Canada.
After the testimony, the Veteran contacted me, and expressed significant disapproval. Although I don't understand what exactly was said which he disapproves of, I do have a feeling that it's not what I said, but that he feels I may be profiting from his painful experience.

Much to my surprise, Nicole gave several instances of Canadians who have been euthanized for the smallest of reasons. One person is scheduled to be euthanized in a few days because he is blind in one eye, and has diabetes. He is only 21 years old.
The MAID program, (Medically Assisted In Dying) was sold to the public as an option for those with unbearable pain, or who were terminally ill. This was a lie. There are discussions right now about allowing 12 year old's to choose to be euthanized without parental consent.

In August 1993, the 2nd Battalion PPCLI, (Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry) augmented with several reserve units engaged in the largest battle since the Korean War. The place, was a little town in Croatia known as the Medak Pocket.
The Croatian Civil War is largely forgotten by the world, but not by those who were there. For some reason, precious little has been written or recorded about the Croatian Civil war, and very little of the history has been preserved. The United Nations invented a new term, "Ethnic Cleansing" to replace the word Genocide, so as to minimize the reality of the slaughter of civilians in that region.
The French forced attempted to hold the ground, but failed in their mission. They were replaced with the Canadian troops, who held the ground despite incredible odds.

Chief Warrant Officer John Barnes was born in the great province of Newfoundland and joined the Canadian Forces in 1981. He completed his basic training in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia and then made his way to London, Ontario, where he completed his basic Infantry training within the 1st Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment (1RCR).
On graduation from Basic Infantry Training, he was posted to 1RCR as a rifleman. Less than a year later, he requested and was granted a posting to 3RCR in Baden, Germany, where he remained as part of the NATO Defence Force for Europe until 1984 when he moved with the battalion to Winnipeg, Manitoba, becoming part of the Army of the West. While in Winnipeg, he completed his Infantry Section Commanders Course at the Battle School in Wainwright and was appointed to the rank of Master Corporal in 1985.

DO THE WORK
You can’t get strong by watching YOUTUBE videos of other people going to the gym. From the videos you can certainly garner some great tips on HOW to work out effectively, but you won’t receive any results without actually doing the workouts.
If you break your arm, it’s not very useful to sit on the couch thinking about possibly going to the hospital. The longer you sit around just “thinking” about getting help for your arm, the more pain you will endure unnecessarily. If you wait a few days, your arm will start to set itself in the wrong position, causing more unnecessary long term suffering. By not addressing the issue and simply getting help, you have made your broken arm into a way bigger issue than it had to be.
If you choose to stay home and just wish you had help, you will suffer from your choices.
If help comes to your door, and you refuse to open that door, you will suffer from your choice.

Erin enrolled in the Royal Military College of Canada at 18 and became an officer for the Royal Canadian Air Force at 22. He did basic training in Chilliwack, got his wings in Winnipeg and was then based in Shearwater, Nova Scotia.
Erin then spent his twenties flying on search and rescue missions and naval support operations with 423 Squadron.
He rose the military ranks to Captain and was awarded both the Canadian Forces Decoration and the Sikorsky Helicopter Rescue Award for rescuing an injured fisherman at sea.
Erin’s military service instilled him with the determination to always see a mission through.

I'll be 52 in May, but this is a sport that I can keep competing in, well into my 60's. We'll see how strong I'll be when I'm 62! It's better to be old and strong, than young and weak.

Ep. #197. The Negative Feedback Loop of Rejection, and its' horrendous consequences
Rejection sucks, and the damage it can do can be catastrophic. This rejection loop is often played out when Military members try to transition to civilian life, but that's not the only place where we see it.
Anyone who is a little socially awkward can experience rejection, which puts them in isolation, which makes them more awkward, which causes more rejection.
Rejection-Isolation-repeat until someone becomes either a total recluse, or unable to function in any social setting.
When this happens, people will either become wall-flowers, or they will lash out / act out. Often, they simply isolate, and avoid people at all costs.

Sexual predators often put themselves into a position where they have access to their young prey. In Jimmy's case, the predator who stalked him was an adult leader of the Sea Cadets. At the age of 14, the grooming process started, and the abuse began.
Predators can always tell who may be vulnerable, and susceptible to the grooming process. Like a Lion on the Serengeti, they pick out the young and the vulnerable from the herd, and start stalking their prey.
Children who feel unloved, and or insecure are the most vulnerable. The child predator can identify those who are craving attention and affirmation more than most, and they use that craving to start the grooming process.
The predator offers a sense of connection, false love, false acceptance, and false self esteem to their prey. Once the bond is strong enough, the abuse begins, often without the child even realizing that they are being abused.

Many veterans experience delays of days to months waiting for the Veterans Administration to fully cover needed services, often to their detriment. There is always the possibility the services won’t be covered at all. In cases of opioid addiction, such delays can be deadly. The nature of addiction often leads opioid dependent veterans to seek street alternatives and the prevalence of fentanyl is so dire that a delay of just a few hours in getting into a treatment facility can result in another needless death. Many more of our brother and sister veterans are lost to addiction, either directly by overdose or indirectly by suicide, than are lost in combat. It is our relentless mission to help every veteran in need that we can.

If you restrict someone's ability to be their authentic selves, this causes distress.
In a dictatorship, you must comply to all the rules of the dictator. What you say, what you wear, what you express in any way must follow the rules, or you will face severe punishment, up to and including death. You don't have to go very far into history to know this is true. It is happening today in North Korea, and that's not the only place.

Cognitive Dissonance is a natural response to uncomfortable information. It is a protection mechanism for the mind that rejects information that it deems to be a threat.
The information can be rejected by automatically contradicting it or by unconsciously replacing it with comfortable information.
Sometimes that information is uncomfortable because it is contradictory to our belief system, and sometimes because the information is morally abhorrent.
To fully understand #cognitivedissonance , it helps to understand Graham's' Hierarchy of arguments. The lower you are on the chart...the stronger the cognitive dissonance. The higher you are on the chart...the more free you are of cognitive dissonance.

PTSD is an injury, not an illness. It is curable if we treat it as such. For over sixty years our medical community has approached PTSD with SSRI’s (anti-depressants), which are virtual cortisone shots for our brains. SSRI’s do not address causation of injury, nor do they address legitimate healing. So, a person diagnosed with PTSD will likely be relegated to a lifetime of SSRI’s and talk therapy.

Stigma is a major barrier to seeking help. Stigma is created through misunderstanding what PTS Injuries are, and their negative impact on a person's quality of life.
Stigma fuels a sense of shame in those who are injured, and this misplaced shame increases reluctance to ask for help and / or support for PTS Injuries. Further, the stigma often creates an inability to acknowledge or accept that the person is in fact injured.
Without first acknowledging the injury, the suffering will continue in silence, often with catastrophic consequences on the life of the injured person.

The majority of Canadians have been exposed to at least one traumatic event in their lifetime. For some, their experience(s) will lead them to develop PTSD.
We know that those who work in our uniformed service professions (Canadian Armed Forces, Police, Fire, Paramedic, Corrections) are at an increased risk for developing an Operational Stress Injury (OSI) like PTSD.
Operational Stress Injuries include diagnosed mental health conditions such as anxiety disorder, depression and PTSD, as well as other conditions that may be less severe but interfere with daily functioning.
Each year, approximately 1,600 CAF members are released for medical reasons. 1/3 of people who leave the military have difficulty making the transition to civilian life
