To celebrate the close of 2022, Badd Kitti counts down the hits of 1972, a pivotal year in the evolution of funk. The apolitical pop soul of Motown, which dominated the charts in the 60s, is fading. A new, raw, politically charged and socially aware sound is making its way onto the R&B charts and into the mainstream. This musical movement called Funk is here to stay. Led by James Brown, Sly Stone, Curtis Mayfield, Al Green and three young upstarts from Philadelphia, their music will define the sound of the 70s and influence generations to come.
