ep 055 - LYD - ME:Masterpiece
A "masterpiece" is defined as "a work of outstanding artistry, skill, or workmanship." If I say "Mona Lisa", you would say DaVinci; If I said, "Starry Night", you'd say VanGogh; if I said Stradivarious, you'd say violin. You get the picture. But what if I said, YOUR name? Would you immediately get the picture of God the Father smiling with great delight, and getting excited as he describes the work and details He's put into your life? If you don't, you should! Eph 2:10 says it all too plainly. ep054 - Me Series1/5: Labels - not worth living for
Dr. M. Scott Peck wrote: "Emotional sickness is avoiding reality at any cost. Emotional health is facing reality at any cost." Whether we're self-aware of it or not, NO ONE goes untouched by the negative - or postitive - labels that others have placed on us. It can lead to powerful transformation, or shackle us in insecurity, projected fault-finding, paranoia, suffering silently in ignorance - and worst of all: we miss out on the great opportunities that God has for us. But it doesn't have to be that way! As Pastor Rick guides us through this series of messages entitled, "ME" we CAN develop a truly loving and other-empowering life after we acknowledge, and let the Holy Spirit transform us. ep 053 - LYD: What is it you want?
"What is it you want?" Has anyone ever asked you that question? Maybe it was at the drive-thru, maybe it was your boss, maybe it was your spouse or children? What if it was the king of the most powerful empire on earth? That's what Nehemiah was asked by King Artaxerxes, and how he answered has great implications for the rest of us. Join Rick - as THIS time, the tables are turned and he interviews Sean; THEN Sean asks Rick about our upcoming series entitled "ME". It's hard to believe but this is the first podcast of SEASON 2! Thanks so much for making this podcast so successful! In this week's podcast, Rick will be wrapping up his comments on his latest series, "Finding Hope". If you've reached the breaking point of pandemic fatigue or perhaps a crisis in your life, or are weary and anxious from the never-ending barrage of bad news, you can find your hope in God, who enables us to say with Habakkuk: "The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights." ep. 051: Finding Hope - While Waiting
The events of 2020 have caused a lot of us to long for resolve of one kind or another. Anger and anxiety are the fruit of unresolved frustration. But it doesn't have to be that way. David, inspired by the Holy Spirit, encouraged us in Psalm 27:14 "Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord", that doesn't make it easier. So, if obeying and honoring the Lord is what we want to purchase, then patience is the currency. Make sure to catch all of Rick's message by pointing your browser to roswellgrace.com. ep 50 - Finding Hope
Perhaps it's just our perception, but it seems as if every time you open the news, or check social media, we're reminded of how hopeless our world is. We sigh, complain and flame - but is it helpful? Are things truly as bad as they are? Even if they are, how can God's Word, through the prophet Habakkuk, show us that no matter how grim things look God knows how to make hope even brighter? In this week's podcast, Sean fires some questions to Rick about his message on Sept. 13th, about finding hope in unsure times. You can find this message by going to roswellgrace.com and clicking on the "watch" tab.

ep. 49 - The Grapes of Mass
The Christian Bible is, without doubt, the most published and best-selling book in history ... and yet, 35% of Americans say they never think about using the Bible outside of Sunday and only 9% read the Bible daily. If faith comes by hearing and hearing from the word of Christ ... the great pandemic of 2020 is the least of our problems. This past week, our Student Ministries Pastor, Chris VanDyke, gave the main message on Sunday highlighting how you and I need to remain on the True Branch, Jesus Christ - and that necessitates God's Word. Sean fires off a few questions to clarify what that means. Sean also takes a brief moment to ask Rick about this next series that Pastor Rick has cooked up for us. Bring a fork: it's time to dig into God's Word! To hear Chris' message, click HERE. You can also find all kinds of information about Grace on our website.

ep. 048: Hold On Through the Darkness
Did you know that 14.8 million Americans suffer from depression and anxiety? That's 6.7% of our population. And with the advent of the coronavirus epidemic, those numbers have jumped significantly. In fact, the CDC recently reported this past June that 40% of American adults have been struggling with mental health or substance abuse. In this week's Living Your Dash podcast, Sean discusses Pastor Alan Gedde's recent message out of Ps. 88, and how depression and anxiety hit home when his eldest daugher, Harmony, suffered an accute bout of depression with some frightening results. Adding more perspective to the mix is Brenda Lee (Sean's wife), who has had a long-time struggle with depression and anxiety. But we also discussed how God always gives hope in this darkness. ep 047: Will God Love Me of Desert Me?
Elizabeth Elliott Gren was 30 years old with a one-year-old when her first husband Jim Elliott was martyred - speared to death - by an indigenous tribe because they feared for their lives. Years later, instead of being filled with fear, bitterness, and disappointment, she wrote: "The deepest things that I have learned in my own life have come from the deepest suffering. And out of the deepest waters and the hottest fires have come to the deepest things that I know about God." It is a mystery how life events can make us think that God doesn't love or care for us - but in this fifth and final question from Pastor Rick's Five Big Questions, Rick helps give clarity and a firm answer to the question: Will God love me or desert me? ep 046: Will God Pardon Me?
At the end of Romans 8, Paul - a master teacher - closes out his thoughts with five important questions. It turns out, these questions are not just asked for rhetorical purposes, but really do reveal the most important facts man-kind must make conclusions on. This week, Rick and Sean explore another important question that we must have an answer for: Will God Charge me Pardon me? ep 045 - Will God Provide for me?
Have you ever been disappointed by God? The job you really wanted - prayed for, fasted for, knew you were the best candidate for ... and you got passed over. Maybe it was a relationship, a sickness, a family member ... you prayed and prayed, but it didn't work out - no GOD didn't make it happen - like you knew it should? In this week's podcast, Rick and Sean discuss this tough subject - but shows us the really inherent promise: God WILL provide for you - maybe not like you expect - but it's the best. * Make sure you check out this entire series and find other information about Grace Community Church at roswellgrace.com. * To watch the service, go HERE.

ep 044: 5 Big Questions - Is God for Me?
In Roman's chapter 8, inspired by the Holy Spirit, Paul is wrapping up his thoughts on the will, work, and ways of God. Instead of making some summary statements, he instead poses five questions to his audience. This was no accident. He intended for us to think deeply about it, and to make the logical consequences of those truths. What are these important truths? That's the focus of Pastor Rick Hale's brand new sermon series, Five Big Questions. This week, Pastor Rick and Sean discuss the most basic and foundational of the questions: Is God for me, or Against me? ep 043 - LYD - Bring Us the Book!
In this week's Living Your Dash podcast, Rick takes a break and allows Kevin Price, Grace's Pastor of Maturity to help us glean a little more truth from his message from the 8th chapter of Nehemiah. After 70 years of exile - firm discipline from God because of their idolatry and disobedience - the Israelites have come home to begin again. ep 043 - LYD - Rock Solid Living and Overview
Dr. Dallas Willard wrote: "Every great teacher must teach about the nature of reality; what is real and what isn’t. It’s assumptions about reality that drive our lives ... Reality is God’s work, not ours; we don’t get to construct truth." And yet, if we know nothing else about humans, we are addicted to creating the Universe into our own acceptability. But for the disciple, we called to take note and take action; it's easy to be influenced by our culture, so we must know the clear boundary markers because the real-world consequences are profoundly and powerfully influential. In this week's podcast, Pastor Rick and Sean discuss his last message and try to look at things from the 30,000 foot level. ep 041 - Rock Solid Second Coming!
A remarkable tenet - and one very specific to Christianity - is the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Did you know that no other world religion has its founder boldly, conspicuously, and repeatedly saying he will personally and bodily return? Worldly culture would like to relegate Jesus to simply being a "moral teacher"; but he boldly claimed so much more! It's as if he were taunting us to pay attention - and that everything hinges on being prepared. If anything says that he is either a liar or a lunatic - or Lord - it's this one thing. But he warned us: we won't know when - so we need to ALWAYS be ready! In this penultimate lesson in the series Rock Solid, Pastor Rick Hale discusses the importance the second coming has in not only as it relates to a disciple's biblical worldview, but how it should fundamentally alter our intentions, plans and goals. * You can find Rick's message here: https://www.roswellgrace.com/2020-05-rock-solid-sermon * Build your Biblical Wor…

ep 040 - Rock Solid Scriptures
In 2 Timothy, Paul wrote these last words to his protege: "But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus." Just as in the first century, the disciple of Jesus today must stand for truth in contrast to the fruitless and vapid philosophies of our day. In this podcast, Rick and Sean welcome Kevin Price - Grace's very own Pastor of Growth - to the discussion in how to have a rock-solid maturity in the scriptures. * You can find Rick's message here: https://www.roswellgrace.com/2020-05-rock-solid-sermon * Build your Biblical Worldview Library: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/23P91MV9NJ6GF?ref_=wl_share * Learn more about Blueletter Bible: https://www.blueletterbible.org/ * Learn more about YouVersion Bible: https://www.youversion.com/the-bible-app/ * Find o…

ep 039: Rock Solid Church
Have you ever had the thought: "You know, I really don't need to go to church or be any more spiritual if I go to church?" Sure you have! Most people from time-to-time forget - or have at best a poor or misinformed view - about God's intentions and plans for humanity. Rick Warren put it well: "The church is indestructible and will exist for eternity. It will outlive this universe, and so will your role in it. The person who says, “I don’t need the church,” is either arrogant or ignorant. The church is so significant that Jesus died on the cross for it. " In this week's episode, Rick and Sean go a bit deeper after Rick's message on the 21st and find important nuggets of truth about God's Church. ep 038 - Living Your Dash - Rock Solid Salvation
ep 038 - “A proud man", wrote CS Lewis "is always looking down on things and people; and, of course, as long as you are looking down, you cannot see something that is above you.” In this episode of the Living Your Dash podcast, Rick and Sean dive deeper into another fundamental component of a Biblical Worldview: that mankind is sinful and needs salvation. Launching from Rick's May 14th message, we see we have to jettison our pride and arrogance and humbly receive the Gift that God gives to us in the form of Salvation. ep 037 - Rock Solid Holy Spirit
Would it make a difference if you believed that God The Holy Spirit wasn't a person, but a symbol or entity? That's the supposition of a naturalist or atheistic evolutionist. In contrast, a Christian worldview understands that they can't operate without the Spirit's guidance and empowerment; it not only goes against our purpose but would also be a needless and fruitless waste of His time and ours. ep 036 - Rock Solid Lord
We all have our favorite "dad" sayings - here's mine to my kids: "Often, it's not WHAT you know but WHO you know that makes the difference." You might be the smarter candidate or more knowledgeable about something, but if you don't have ACCESS to INFLUENCE, your resume stays at the bottom, your voice never gets heard, your name never gets mentioned. So when we think about eternal things: there's only ONE person we want representing us and acknowledging us: That's Jesus. But do we have a proper, biblical understanding of Jesus? Or is it based on the error-riddled, negatively-biased opinion of what culture says? In this episode, Rick and Sean discuss the contents of Rick's message on May 31st, proving that it's essential to start with a Biblical view of _JESUS_ if we're going to have a living relationship with him. ep 035 - Trust In a Rock Solid God
Jesus wrapped up His Sermon on the Mount by saying "everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock." No one should live their lives in fear or insecurity. We need to begin with the Author of life and truth - and that's God! In this episode, Rick and Sean discuss a bit more deeply the contents of Rick's message on May 24th, proving that it's essential to start with a Biblical view of God before if we're going to have a Biblical Worldview. 034: The Courage to Humbly But Boldy Pray
In this episode: Rick and Sean discuss re-opening Grace for public worship and discuss this past week's message. A characteristic of the People of God is that - for the most part - we stay under the radar: 1 Tim. 2:2 says that living peaceful and quiet lives should be our desire. But there are times when we must boldly stand in opposition to the world, and boldly ask for the power and movement of God. It's not about an arrogant assumption, but a holy, humble, but insistent faith in God's stated promises. This week, Rick and Sean discuss this kind of bold praying. We wonder: is this something you are maturing in? Because you never know when you will be called on to pray boldly. And as John Wooden said, "When opportunity comes, it's too late to prepare." May we all be preparing now! ep 033: The Courage to Pray Humbly
EM Bounds was an attorney, Civil War chaplain, and pastor who wrote this about the power of prayer: "God's plan is to make much of the man, far more of him than of anything else. Men are God's method. The Church is looking for better methods; God is looking for better men. ” By men, he meant "mankind", of course - but the catalyst of God changing people - of God changing history - is prayer. This week, Rick and Sean look back at his message on the dynamic power of prayer in the life of Daniel, giving us insight on how God strengthens and prepares us for serving him. In this episode, Rick discusses the necessity of disciples yielding the foundation of their worldview to God that leads to the natural consequences of a life that is pleasing to him. It was a Biblical worldview that gave courage to Daniel to resolve not to be conformed to his world, but instead firmly insist on God's pattern for his life - no matter what the circumstances. ep 021 | "How to Play Well With Others" Living Your Dash Podcast (almost 24 mins)
ep 021 | "How to Play Well With Others" Living Your Dash Podcast What are the most important virtues necessary for expressing love in the church - or anywhere in the world for all time, for that matter? In this episode, Rick and Sean build on Chris VanDyke's message from Jan. 26th. If you think about it, encouragement, comfort, fellowship, tenderness and compassion ... they are the gifts we crave, the gifts we *have* and God expects us to give those gifts away to each other. https://www.roswellgrace.com/ https://www.roswellgrace.com/living-your-dash-podcast

ep 20 - Don't Worry; Trust Jesus! (20 mins) In this episode, Rick brings more light to this past week's message "Learn To Eliminate Worry" by pointing us to our Master's fundamental teaching on trusting - and not worrying - in Matthew 6:25-34, why worrying is not only *not* helpful, it's harmful to us, emotionally, mentally and even physically. Rick finishes up by giving us 3 steps to having peace. https://www.roswellgrace.com/living-your-dash-podcast https://www.roswellgrace.com/

18 ep - Enjoy Your Friends! - 20 minutes
In this episode, Rick and Sean discuss Grace's new series called “How to enjoy the rest of your life” and based on this week's message, the importance of Godly friendships in our lives. It's a fallacy that having a great many acquaintances means we're connected. Mature, life-giving friendships take time to develop and self-reflection to keep ourselves honest. In fact, we can't fulfill the Great Commission - the ONE important purpose for humanity - without being in loving relationships with others in a local church. Sound unbelievable? 017 ep - Happy 2020 with Bixby Church and Enjoying the Rest of Your Life - 29 minutes
This week: Sean travels all the way to Bixby to give Lendell and Patty a hug, gets an update on Bixby Church (aka: Baby Grace, Grace Community Church - Bixby), confuses OU with OSU, the challenges of starting a church, losing his hearing (?!) and how we can pray for them; then Rick gives a heads-up on the new series: "How to Enjoy the Rest of Your Life". It's a new year and a new decade! Share this podcast with someone, today! Yeah, it's longer than usual, but it's chock-full of goodness! https://www.bixby.church/ https://www.bixbycr.com/

016 ep - The Root of Merry Christmas (12 mins)
016 ep - The Root of Merry Christmas (12 mins) Merry Christmas! In this episode, Rick describes the paradox of the "Root of David" which is a pre-cast of The One who is the Messiah: Jesus! Rick shows us that Matthew didn't get it wrong when he said that the prophets spoke of him coming out of Nazareth, and we discuss how the paradox of The Prince of Peace still reigns even if it doesn't seem peaceful. Rick also discusses the next sermon series through Philippians: "How to Enjoy the Rest of Your Life". https://www.roswellgrace.com/how-to-enjoy-life

015 ep - Walk Like an Egyptian (20 mins)
In this episode, Rick brings a little more light to this past week's message based on several comments made on the relevancy of the topic: that all is NOT calm and all is NOT bright for them. There is hope when we have GOD's PERSPECTIVE - looking THROUGH circumstances instead of simply AT them. God intends to build the spiritual muscle of faith in our lives and to have a "grown-up" faith. PLUS Rick talks about the next Christmas Promises message, we encourage Ugly Christmas Sweater Sunday, and the Christmas Eve Service at 4:30 and 6pm.

014 episode - Living Your Dash: Location! Location! Location! (19 mins)
This episode: 725 years before the first Christmas, God spoke through the prophet Micah to foretell that His King would be born in Bethlehem. Rick and Sean discuss the amazing "coincidences" around Bethlehem, it's significance in Scriptural fulfillment and how that translates to the Prince of Peace being our Peace. There's still lots of Christmas to celebrate! Don't forget every Sunday's build-up, as well as our beautiful Christmas Eve Candlelight celebration. Check out the website for more information!

013 episode - Living Your Dash: A Virgin Shall Concieve?! (20 mins)
This week, Rick discusses the background, the historical context of the virgin birth and the contemporary consequences that we need to latch on to. Rick encourages us to look to King Ahaz and learn from the mistakes he made in placing his confidence in the wrong place; "God with us" means we can trust him, now! Rick then touches on the importance of Christ's immaculate conception and the incredible odds that Jesus established through his birth and life. Imagine the state of Texas buried two feet deep in silver dollars ...

012 episode - Living Your Dash: Special Guest - Barry Anderson (19 mins)
012 episode - Living Your Dash: Special Guest - Barry Anderson (19 mins) Happy Thanksgiving from Living Your Dash and Grace Community Church! This week, we have a special guest, Barry Anderson, Grace's very own Pastor of Equipping (Confused? Barry explains), and we discuss a bit more on the topic of a thankful heart that leads to joy; Barry gets real about how God supplied joy even in the midst of great struggle, the power of God's Word to transform us and our circumstances; we remember the powerful story of Corey ten Boon's book, The Hiding Place. Barry also touches on how God made every member a minister (shocker!) and how to find your "sweet spot" in expressing the ministry he called you to.

011 episode - Living Your Dash: The Bottom Line of Church Health (22 mins)
The most important question a person should ask of a prospective church is: "What's your plan in fulfilling the Lord Jesus Christ's Great Commission to his Church?" Maybe you've never considered that as important? In this episode: Sean asks questions based on Rick's message on November 17th. Entitled "A Church Plant That Plants Churches", Rick chose to look at the church of Antioch as the prototype for all churches that intentionally purposed to live out the Great Commission (Mt. 28:18-20).

This week, we focus on the VALUES that God reveals in his Word, and how we can stay keep from straying away.

009 episode - Living Your Dash: Weird Sex (25 mins)
In this episode: Rick and Sean discuss the oftentimes polarizing subject of sex. The Bible is very clear about the role of sex, but the stats are unfortunately very clear about the destruction that sex outside of the bonds of marriage can have on us personally and as a society. Rick talks about the difference between normal and "weird" sex, what do we do if we've not followed God's plan, and how Grace is an accepting church, but we know God calls us to transformation.

008: Living Your Dash: Weird Wk 03 - relationships
This week Rick and Sean discuss how weird relationships are absolutely essential to our lives. God's way of relating to each other removes the fear that leads to pretension or protection. We discuss God's answers to the big four causes of toxicity (taking criticism personally, fear of rejection, difficulty in expressing true feelings, inability to give a healthy "no"), give a nod to Dr. Henry Cloud's book, "Boundaries: When to Say Yes, How to Say No To Take Control of Your Life", and Rick challenges our church to healthier relationships in every scope of our lives.

002 Episode - The Christian's Victory and More Weird
In this, our second episode of the Living Your Dash podcast, Rick remarks on the Christian's victory through Christ and how it leads into living lives that are "weird." Program notes * From Sunday's Message: Jesus promised in John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Rick expands a little more on the Church Father Cyprian. * We're getting WEIRD at Grace. What's that mean? A super-series designed to bring God's wisdom to our lives. But there's a difference between "bad weird" and "good weird". * EVERYONE will learn from this series, but it can be life-changing for the non-Christian. We'll look at 5 areas: Time, money, relationships, sex and values. * Join the conversation on Facebook using the @roswellgrace handle or Instagram using the @roswellgracechurch handle and post what you're learning by using #WEiRDatGrace.
