Finding the Right Language to Share Our Superpowers as HSPs with Willow and Julie
As many of us didn’t receive the right training we needed as children in order to really understand our trait as HSPs, we can often take for granted the gifts it gives us. This can mean that we tend to focus on the challenges rather than the advantages. Since the trait enables us to process sensory data more deeply the way this actualizes as higher sensory abilities can be very rewarding. Whilst we may be aware of these abilities to an extent we often gloss over them in the way they were when we were children. In reality, these abilities are deeply aligned with our gifts, what’s most important to us and what makes us great at what we do. When we find the right language to share them it’s much easier to bring them into service for our benefit and the benefit of others. Join us this week as we continue the conversation about learning to normalize the high sensory abilities we are born with and how to bring them into conscious ownership. HSPs are more intuitive, empathic, creative, and have extra special abilities. Recognize your value and embrace and honor your gifts!  Give this Letter to your Medical and Mental Health Practitioners about the trait Please share and review this Podcast to help other HSPs. Mini-Meditation: Meditate on Your Lunch Break
Lunchtime is the time of day when we need an added dose of focus and energy to carry us through the rest of the day. It is a natural point of low energy, and often it is also a time when we start to think about how much we haven’t gotten done yet. We start planning tomorrow’s to-do list while still working through today. ** This tension between low-energy and high-demands actually diminishes our ability to get things done in a creative and timely manner. ** A mid-day meditation practice is benefited from bringing in the mindfulness tenant of non-judgment. Non-judgment asks us to release our obsession with ‘good job/bad job’. It asks us to let go of ‘I like it/I don’t like it’. And instead, it asks us to simply sit with what is… ** The simple flow of breath and quieting of the mind is restful and restoring for the body and the brain. Give this practice a try today and see how it impacts your afternoon! ** These mini meditations are meant to support a daily home practice. Tune in every Monday to find your practice for the week! Full episodes are released every Thursday for a longer, deeper practice. ** You can practice with me live each Monday as I record this podcast. #46: How to Find an Anchor While Meditating (Part 2)
The two practices of sati, or mindfulness, and metta, love and kindness, are distinctly different, but you cannot practice one without the other. It’s important to understand their differences in order to make the most out of your yoga practice. To start with, you cannot practice metta without sati. Sati is the mindfulness and awareness of what is. There is no imagination or visualization - what is simply is, and we must stay grounded in this practice in order to achieve mindfulness. Achieving this mindfulness is easier said than done because sitting and meditating is very intimidating to most of us. We are carrying existential pain and suffering deep within us and meditation forces us to sit with this pain. There’s absolutely nothing comfortable about that. But as you practice sati, you are practicing ways to observe this pain without fueling it. This objective way of looking at our thoughts and emotions makes it possible to practice metta. Metta is the power of creation through conscious thinking. When we practice metta, we are actively planting positive thoughts in our heart’s center of love, kindness, peace, and harmony, both toward ourselves and those around us. These positive thoughts can be things like “I am worthy” or “I deserve to be happy,” but they can also be as simple as the mere thought of love. Thinking of someone or something you love is part of the practice of metta. These thoughts tap into the vibration of love and give you the power to carry it within you and share it with others. As you listen today, think of your mind and heart as a garden. Sati will clear away the overgrowth of negative thoughts so you can plant the seeds of metta in an open mind and an open heart. I hope you recognize how important sati and metta are to not only our yoga practice but also to our own peace of mind. You cannot practice metta without sati because you cannot plant seeds of love before recognizing the pain and suffering that exists within your heart. Share some of what’s in your heart with me and my listeners. Send an email at info@kinoyoga.com and tell me - what does yoga mean to you? 245: Finding Balance Through Chinese Medicine with Brodie Welch
To start 2021, we are talking all about simple, hands-on tools and practices that you can incorporate into your life to help you get into your Adult Chair — now and all year long. Today, we’re talking about one of my favorites: Chinese medicine. Chinese medicine is a beautiful, holistic view of healthcare that helps us find balance on the emotional, physical and spiritual level. It incorporates acupuncture, herbology, bodywork, movement and diet along with meditation and other grounding practices to bring health to your entire self. At the root of all Chinese medicine practices is the idea that we are interconnected beings and true wellness comes from treating the whole person and not just symptoms. I love this approach! In this episode, I talk with Brodie Welch, an acupuncturist and expert in Chinese medicine. We talk about presence, consciousness and processing emotions along with physical tools such as Qi gong and herbs. You might be surprised by the way these overlap with many of the ideas in The Adult Chair! Listen to discover: * How Chinese medicine helps the body create health by finding balance * How to find patterns and treat them holistically * Why it’s important to look for connections between how you’re feeling and where those feelings manifest in the body * What Qi gong is and its benefits * Simple self-care actions that you can take each day to live more in balance Brodie also walks us through a simple Qi gong exercise on the podcast that will help you get into balance in the moment (and maybe try a new practice you haven’t tried before!). “It’s a way of looking at the world and the body as an ecosystem...Chinese medicine sees the body as this interconnected system of different kinds of energy.” - Brodie Welch “No state of our physicality doesn’t have an emotion that goes with it.” - Brodie Welch “It’s not about treating a condition. It’s about treating a person.” - Brodie Welch “You don’t have to make this giant leap into someone that you’re not...If we can shift a tiny bit today and then the next day, we’re going to find a great change.” - Michelle Chalfant Resources Brodie Welch Website https://brodiewelch.com/ Free Qi Gong Resource https://brodiewelch.com/calm/ Brodie Welch Podcast https://brodiewelch.com/podcast/ TAC Gatherings https://theadultchair.com/tacgatherings More Adult Chair The Adult Chair Website https://theadultchair.com The Adult Chair Membership https://theadultchair.com/membership/ The Adult Chair Workshop https://theadultchair.com/events/ The Adult Chair Coaching Certification https://theadultchair.com/certification-program/ TAC Gatherings https://theadultchair.com/tacgatherings/ Stay Connected Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/michelle.chalfant Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MichelleChalfantFanPage/ The Adult Chair Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/theadultchair/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/Michellechalfant *** EPISODE CREDITS: If you like this podcast and are thinking of creating your own, consider talking to my producer, Danny Ozment.
