I, David Devine Hughes, typically don't cover things that aren't expressly related to animation but I felt that this was relevant.  "Orange County's Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to make official the tribute to the late Bryant, who was one of nine to perish in a helicopter crash in January.  Bryant wore numbers  8 and 24 during his prolific 20 year NBA career, which is why the date August 24th was chosen".
