Crew Morale, Relationships in the Industry & Picking Your Battles BTS w/ Patrick Johnson
Play • 26 min
This is Part 3: (BTS is Behind The Scenes) Carlos, Chris and I had the great pleasure of talking to Patrick Johnson, the director of 47 Hours To Live, She’s Crushed (Crushed) and Amber Heard’s first film SideFX. This was such a good conversation and he starts from the beginning, the winding road to filmmaking. From an offer to make 50 bucks from a man in a van to being inspired to distribute by a guy known as Half Head Fred. Taking films to festivals and how that went. Directors who lost their mind, entire crew walk out during projects, crazy producer and over ambitious projects with no budget. Plus what happened when Patrick finally got a good budget to make a feature film and the lessons he learned about culture and industry relationships. And why, for him, intent matters and why he’d rather offend you with his movies than get no response at all. This story was quite a ride! He also has something new in mind in the works and we hope to talk to him again! If you are a low budget horror fan, check out his flicks...She’s Crushed, 47 Hours to Live, SideFX and (comedy) The Highschooler’s Guide to College Parties. Note: Other movies that were mentioned was Excision, After Dark, Hereditary, Yummy, Uncut Gems As always, thank you for listening! And a massive thank you to out guest, Patrick Johnson, director of SideFX, The Highschoolers Guide to College Parties, She’s Crushed and 47 Hours to Live.
