Warren Buffet wanted to teach his friend, Bill Gates, a valuable lesson. So, he handed him his pocket book - a little book that he used as his calendar. Bill took the book and began to flip through it. By the time he got the the tenth page or so, he exclaimed, “There’s nothing on it!”
“Absolutely,” Warren replied with a smirk. In a couple of months, he had three, maybe four, appointments. Bill Gates on the other hand had every minute of his day packed full of activities - work, family, interests, etc. He thought that maximising his productivity meant maximising the amount of activities he did.
What Warren Buffett taught him that day however, was the importance of giving himself time alone with himself, to think.
It’s easy to wear busyness and constant activity as a badge of honour. It shows we’re not lazy. It shows that we care.
