#6: The power of language
I unintentionally end up with a common thread of the importance of language in three separate topics:
- Jane Campion's Critics Choice Awards speech where she gets her white feminism on and compares her oppression as a white woman in the film industry to that of Venus and Serena Williams who were in the audience
- The ongoing obsession people have with commenting on people's weight loss and bodies (especially in relation to Anthony Albanese and Rebel Wilson as the most recent examples)
- The so called 'nude photo scandal' from MAFS aka image based abuse of Dom perpetrated by Olivia
Also, my recommendation for the week, 'The Trojan Horse Affair' podcast comes with a slight caveat that we should be applying some critical thinking to the content we consume.

#5: The Crumb Maidens and International Women's Day
In this episode I chat about the types of International Women's Day posts that really make me mad, how the crumb maidens get it so very wrong, and why I still fight against their oppression (even if they won't do it themselves). Also a bit of a rant about Kim Kardashian saying women in business just need to 'get off their ass and work'.

#4: Reflecting on sexual assault, one year on from Brittany Higgins
On today's episode I talk through my feelings on the one year anniversary of Brittany Higgins' disclosure on her experience of sexual assault and the way women in particular experience the post-event trauma and processing that comes along with sexual assault and it being in the news so much over the past year. Including a discussion of consent, why this isn't a 'women's issue' and what really needs to change.

Rant this week is on Kanye West and specifically the reporting and attention around his current behaviours and how problematic it is to treat it as entertainment when this is an issue of both mental health and the normalisation of abusive relationships (19.50 - 24.35)

#3: Joe Rogan, Spotify and misinformation
In today's episode I go through the timeline behind the Spotify and Joe Rogan issues, why 'just having a conversation' isn't an excuse for the spread of misinformation and where the limit for 'freedom of speech' is.
Rant: anti vax protestors have descended on Canberra (again) and I wish they'd leave. Especially as they're associated with alt right and white supremacist groups.

#1: We'll see how this goes
Welcome to the first episode of Lauren Lately: the podcast, where I talk about why I started a podcast, why it's been such a challenge to my imposter syndrome and perfectionist tendencies, and the kinds of topics I'll be discussing here on the podcast. Also my first rant and recommendation, with a healthy dose of misogyny in sport and a segue about 'personal responsibility'.
