Nature-based Solutions: spotlight on social equity, finance and scale
Welcome to Talks 4 Action Episode 5!
“Man is both creature and moulder of his environment, which gives him physical sustenance and affords him the opportunity for intellectual, moral, social and spiritual growth. In the long and tortuous evolution of the human race on this planet a stage has been reached when, through the rapid acceleration of science and technology, man has acquired the power to transform his environment in countless ways and on an unprecedented scale. Both aspects of man's environment, the natural and the man-made, are essential to his well-being and to the enjoyment of basic human rights the right to life itself.” (Stockholm Declaration, 1972)
On the 2nd to the 3rd of June, #Stockholm+50 will commemorate the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment and celebrate 50 years of global environmental action. Nature-based solutions (NbS) have recently emerged as a key environmental action to address societal challenges. In this episode, we discuss some of the promises and pitfalls of NbS with a special spotlight on social equity, finance and scale.
Nathalie Doswald, EbA and Eco-DRR Expert at the Disasters and Conflicts Branch (UNEP), will guide you through a conversation with Karina Barquet, Senior Research Fellow and Team Leader of the Water, Coasts and Ocean group at Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) Headquarters, and Jonathan Green, Senior Researcher of the Sustainable Consumption and Production team.
