ジェニのピカピカ日本語へようこそ。
Today, I would like to introduce you to the Wakakusa Yamayaki(若草山焼き), a traditional event that heralds early spring in Nara(奈良).
It is a spectacular sight to see the entire mountain burn and scorch the night sky.
There are many theories about the origins of the Wakakusa Mountain Yaki, including some about territorial disputes between temples and shrines.
According to one theory, at the top of Mt. Wakakusa's third peak is the Uguisuzuka burial mound,(鶯塚古墳)a huge forward and backward circular tomb, and it is said that ghosts come out of this tomb and scare people, but if the mountain is burned, the ghosts will disappear. It is also said that if the mountain is not burned by January of the following year, something undesirable will happen.
The origins of the festival are interesting.
