The Picture Method

When you need to stop stress just follow this exercise. It will only take 5 minutes.

Here’s why it works: Stress only exist in the past or in the future. You’re stressed because of what did happen or what is going to happen. Stress does not exist in the present.

When you need to stop stress just follow this exercise. It will only take 5 minutes.

Here’s why it works: stress only exist in the past or in the future. You’re stressed because of what did happen or what is going to happen. Stress does not exist in the present. Everything that’s happening right now is exactly the way it is. It’s exactly what life has to give you at this moment and it’s okay.

With that in mind, to eliminate stress all you need to do is bring your mindset or thoughts into the now. Since there’s no stress in the present, whatever stressing you out will fade away giving you the needed relief.

Here’s how to do it:

Whenever you feel stress coming on your first step is to find a picture or photograph of something that you like. Do that now and then come back to this exercise…

In a moment you’ll describe the picture to yourself, out loud in detail, as if you were describing it to an artist friend over the telephone that wants to re-create it perfectly using colored pencils.

Don’t worry; your friend is an excellent artist and draws very quickly so he’ll be able to keep up with you if you take your time in describing the picture. You’ll have to be precise in describing the colors, the textures, sizes and shapes. Be very clear in describing the locations of each item in reference to each other, the shadowing and the intricate details…

By taking the time to describe your picture in such detail, you’re bringing yourself into the present. You’re focusing so much on the now or the job at hand that the past and the future have faded away thereby eliminating the stress.

Go ahead and begin your exercise now. Describe your picture out loud as if you’re talking over the phone… take your time… and relax … go ahead now…
