The Murder of Angie Dodge
Play • 1 hr 24 min
18-year old Angie Dodge had just moved into her first apartment in 1996 when her life was suddenly and violently snuffed out. In 1998, a young man named Christopher Tapp was convicted of Angie’s murder. The prosecution’s case relied on Christopher’s confession. The defense argued that the confession was coerced and that the state was ignoring DNA evidence from an unknown suspect. Angie’s heartbroken mother, Carol Dodge, was left to wonder about the suspect still at large.
After years of seeking the truth, Carol Dodge watched Christopher’s confession tapes. Appalled by the interrogations, she reached out to an expert in false confessions, who in turn contacted the Innocence Project. But it would take several more years and the work of experts in DNA genealogy to find Angie’s real killer and exonerate Christopher Tapp.
The use of genealogical familial searching and its success in this and other cases has exciting implications for future criminal investigations. The public has shown approval for the technique overall; however, there are privacy concerns over the use of private genetic data to implicate a person or his/her relatives in a crime.
Join us at the quiet end for The Murder of Angie Dodge. By putting together a DNA profile and identifying relatives in the suspect’s family tree, genealogist CeCe Moore and a DNA consulting firm called Parabon were able to find Angie’s killer. Carol Dodge had been crucial in the exoneration of her daughter’s convicted killer Chris Tapp, casting a bright light on the failings of our criminal justice system. If not for her determination, Chris would still be an innocent man in prison as Angie’s real killer walked free.

***Sponsored by: AcornTV! Visit Acorn.TV/Trace to get your first 30 days free! Simplisafe! Visit Simplisafe.com/Trace for a free security camera and 60 day risk free trial!*** Eighteen year old Jennifer Pentilla was driven to help others. Fresh out of high school she traveled to Mexico on a mission trip to paint churches and assist the local community. When an opportunity arose to go back, she leapt at it. What was supposed to be a group bike trip from San Diego, down into Mexico, fell through but Jennifer was undeterred and even if she had to go alone, she was set on making the trip. In October of 1991, she set off on her own and for a time the trip was going well. However, on October 17th she made her last call home and mysteriously disappeared from Deming, New Mexico. Over a year later, most of her belongings were found in the desert not far from the town of Hatch. Thirty years later, the question remains, what became of Jennifer Pentilla? “Holly Washa, Delayed Justice” | MURDERISH Ep. 074
On May 27th, 1991, a call came in to the front desk of the Palm Springs Ramada Inn. The caller was 33-year-old Susan Schnell, a guest at the hotel. Shockingly, Schnell said that she had been sexually assaulted and her throat had been slit. The battered woman was in critical condition but fortunately, she survived. Police quickly arrested her attacker. When investigators questioned the man about the attack on Schnell, they got much more than they bargained for. He admitted not only to the abduction and assault of Susan Schnell, but also told police where they could find the body of a young woman in Seattle whom he had murdered the previous Friday. After being alerted of this grisly confession, King County Police soon found the body of a young woman inside the trunk of her own car. The body was identified as being 21-year-old Holly Washa. DARK CALL 3 - FULL EPISODE FREE BONUS
Hey all you hug dealers, Ok this is a personally curated Dark Call for all of you that have been asking what you might be missing over on Patreon ( http://patreon.com/1159media ). But don’t worry, this is a bonus, and we will also still be filling your earballs this week with a new 911 Calls episode as expected. What makes a call a Dark Call? Well, one of two things: * The call just might not resolve like normal - in other words, it might be a bit more uncomfortable, but we still try really hard to find the humor in everything … just like normal, and we try to hold your hand through all the craziness that might ensue. * Or, it might be a topic that we find a little more intense than what we would normally play on the 911 Calls Podcast with The Operator … which afterall is a family show. * Three, the theme song sounds different, it’s still the same song, but it is performed by my friends down at the gothic church of the 7 elevens, they’re a startup … support your local goths, I say… * But finally, rest assured, there is always, always, always a happy ending that is both happy and the ending to each episode. So with that, I hope you will continue to trust me as I present this special, hand picked Dark Call for your earballs to absorb.
