O Wisdom: Wednesday, Colossians 1:15-20
Play • 14 min

O Wisdom, you come forth from the mouth of the Most High.

You fill the universe and hold all things together in a strong yet gentle manner.

O come to teach us the way of truth.

Today’s reading: Colossians 1:15-20

I wonder if I can imagine Jesus’ face. What do his eyes look like, as he looks at me with love? What is the expression on his face?

I wonder if it is hard to believe sometimes that all of God -- all of God’s wisdom, and all of God’s love, and all of God’s power -- was present in a human being named Jesus, who really walked and lived on our earth? I wonder if that stretches my imagination? What do I want to say to God about that?

Here are words we heard today: “God was pleased to have his whole nature living in Christ. God was pleased to bring all things back to himself.” Coming to live with us in Jesus makes God happy. Having Jesus bring all of us close makes God happy. How does it feel to hear that God is pleased to be near me?

In Advent, we look around and see the ways that God feels far away or absent. What inside of me, or in my world, needs God to come close now? What needs to be saved and brought back to God? Can I ask Jesus to come and be near us again?
