A Case Study in MTB Tourism, with CAMBA in Wisconsin
Play • 46 min

Ron Bergin is the Executive Director of the Chequamegon Area Mountain Bike Association, also known as CAMBA, located in northern Wisconsin. The club is known for maintaining a well known network of mountain bike trails which host popular races and events including the Chequamegon Mountain Bike Festival and the Borah Epic. CAMBA recently worked with River Falls Research Center on a study linking trail visits to $7.8 million in economic impact within two surrounding counties.

We learn how the CAMBA trail usage and economic impact study was conducted, and what the results mean for future trail building and maintenance. Are events big economic drivers, or are trails alone enough to make an impact? Is it tough to find enough local volunteers to maintain trails used primarily by tourists? Do groomed fat bike trails draw winter visitors? Ron answers all these questions and more.

Chasing World Cup DH Dreams - Rooted MTB on The Inside Line Podcast
Welcome mountain bikers, happy 2021! What happens when the kids ask you for the mic so they can record their own Inside Line? Well, today happens and it warms my cold, black heart to no end. The #USDH gravity-loving crew from Rooted MTB take over the show to discuss their experiences as American downhill racers. Their honest, fun, self-deprecating look at what it takes to chase World Cup downhill dreams is a first-hand account of where our sport is today. It’s time for the old-timers to step back a bit and let the up-and-comers have their say. A word of caution for sensitive ears, there is some adult language in today’s show. And, if you’re wondering? Heck yes, I listened to the entire thing and loved every disjointed-laugh-filled minute of it. Enjoy the show #USDH! The Inside Line is supported by Jenson USA where you can shop for all of your mountain bike and MTB-related gear. Use coupon code “insideline” all one word, at checkout on jensonusa.com and you’ll receive 10% off qualifying items. Maxxis Tires make our bikes go ‘round and we’re honored to have them as an Inside Line supporter for the last 4 years! The most fun and easy way to alter a bike’s character or performance on the trail is with a set of new tires. Hit up maxxis.com to find the tire that’s best for you! How rad is this? Our friends at Santa Cruz announced that their PayDirt initiative has named 16 organizations as the first funding recipients in the company's three-year, $1 million pledge aimed at trail building and mountain bike development across the globe. Ep. 63 - Jacob Hora
The first episode of 2021 is with the very inspirational Jacob Hora. At only 15 he's accomplished more than most regardless of age. I didn't know who he was before watching the Trackleader dots of Jay Petervary's Fat Pursuit. The first place finisher was Jacob, so I clicked on his profile and was immediately intrigued when I saw he was only 15! You may remember that the first episode of 2020 was with, 15 year old, Alana Rose Parent. I thought that was such a great way to start off the new year, with a inspirational story from the younger members of our community. Hearing their enthusiasm for cycling and the outdoors truly makes me feel good about the future of this sport and community we love. I knew very little about Jacob going into the interview; which I always enjoy. I got to be truly surprised by him, his accomplishments, goals, and perspectives. What I heard from him was nothing but positivity, excitement, and love for bikepacking. But as you'll hear, accomplishments don't just happen, Jacob has already learned the value of hard work to accomplish goals. There are no shortcuts here, he's putting in the work and making the sacrifices to do the thing he loves and to pursue his goals. He's currently training for the ITI 350 in February, so make sure to follow his dot and send him some love. You can follow him on instagram @jacob_hora To listen to the FULL version of the BoD Theme Song (Cover) by Ian Cherry Click Here.

VeloNews Podcast, ep. 232: Why Tom Dumoulin may not return; NBC's Tour de France decision
On this week's episode of The VeloNews Podcast we dive into two of the biggest stories swirling in the sport: Tom Dumoulin stepping away from pro cycling and NBC's decision to torpedo the Tour de France's U.S. cable television home, NBC Sports Network. First, we discuss the Dumoulin news with longtime Dutch cycling journalist Raymond Kerckhoffs of Wielerflits.nl. Kerckhoffs, who has covered Dumoulin for his entire pro cycling career, discusses the family tragedy that occurred just before Dumoulin announced his decision. Kerckhoffs also explains why he believes that Dumoulin's step away from cycling may be permanent. Kerckhoffs also discusses his recent interview with Dutch sprinter Dylan Groenewegen, who opened up about the terrifying crash at the Tour of Poland that sent countryman Fabio Jakobsen to the hospital for weeks. Groenewegen was banned for causing the crash, and he has new perspective on how it went down. Then, American journalist John Ourand of the SportsBusiness Journal joins the show to discuss the news that Comcast/NBC plans to shutter cable sports channel NBC Sports Network at the end of 2021. NBC Sports Network has been the U.S. television home of the Tour de France since 2012, and every year it broadcasts dozens of hours of Tour coverage to U.S. fans. Ourand explains why NBC is shuttering the channel, and whether or not the Tour will have a home for live television broadcast in the future. All that and more on this week's episode of The VeloNews Podcast.
