With the UT System Board of Regents on the cusp of finalizing a deal with new UT-Austin football coach Steve Sarkisian, university officials have dodged questions from the American-Statesman about whether any minority candidates were approached for the job. University rules say that a hiring institution such as UT-Austin must include an underrepresented group candidate when interviewing for executive administrator jobs, such as athletic director or dean. The UT football head coaching post is the most highly paid and among the most visible public jobs in the state of Texas. Golfer Tiger Woods was injured in a serious car crash in the Los Angeles area on Tuesday morning, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The department said in a statement that the decorated golfer had to be extricated from his vehicle following the rollover crash in Rancho Palos Verdes, California before being transported to a local hospital. A Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesperson did not confirm Woods' identity, but he classified the crash victim's injuries to USA TODAY Sports as serious but non-life threatening. Woods, a Jupiter Island resident, was the lone occupant of the car when it crashed.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Treasure Coast officials rescued eight people from the waters off Waveland Beach in St. Lucie County on Sunday after their boat overturned, sending two pregnant women and six men from Cuba overboard after more than 16 days at sea. The victims had been traveling on a makeshift vessel made of foam, metal rods and a Kia car engine, officials and eyewitnesses said. Video taken by helicopter shows the boat as it gets tossed and overturned by waves with passengers huddled in jackets and raincoats. The footage shows the overturned boat floating near shore and at least one person being carried out of the water and three people.
