#22 - Mike Rolls
56 min

In September 2001, at the age of 18, Mike’s life changed forever. He contracted one of the deadliest diseases on the planet, Meningococcal Septicemia while on an end of season Football trip.

Mike’s chances of survival were as little as 5%. His family were told to say goodbye on more than one occasion as he fought for his life. He spent the next 6 months in hospital where he was given the sobering news that it could take years to achieve even the most basic tasks, such as walking and driving, as well as the devastating realisation that sport may not be a possibility.

This week on ListenABLE Dylan Alcott and Angus O’Loughlin talk to Mike Rolls about his journey back to health, an adaptive mindset and a conscious decision to embrace challenge and change. His determination to live a happy, fulfilling life is evident in his accomplishments as a double amputee, like running again after many years, representing Australia in golf, climbing one of Australia’s tallest buildings and passionately advocating and supporting other amputees who experience similar circumstances

The Woman Who Manages Australia’s Biggest Celebrities
Michael Bublé, Delta Goodrem, Guy Sebastian, Jules Sebastian, Fleetwood Mac, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Human Nature. What do all these famous musicians have in common? They are just a small fraction of the talent managed by today’s guest, Jennifer Fontaine. Jennifer started her career at Sony Music Entertainment Australia, before moving on to Warner Music Group. But then, like so many women, she decided she wanted to do exactly what she wanted to do. She wanted to work for herself. So in 2007, she founded Private Idaho Management, and began to look after the careers of Human Nature, and Guy & Jules Sebastian. But with offices in both Sydney and LA, Jen was travelling a lot. All while taking care of her son and trying to grow her business.  So how did she do it?  And how on earth does she find time to lift weights 6 times a week?  THE END BITS: You can find Private Idaho Management here - https://www.privateidaho.com.au/. I Love A Good Vibe
Hello angels. We're back and better than ever, discussing super-recent recommendations like Dawson's Creek, which Grace has finally started watching. Naturally, this is cause to revisit the Katie Holmes/Tom Cruise saga of '06, which remains the most chaotic whirlwind romance in Hollywood history. We're also talking about Meghan Markle's New York Times op-ed - aside from bringing to light more awareness about miscarriage, it's proof that Meg has an uncanny ability to intuit the moment culturally. So why are the royals wasting her? Then, Halima Aden - the first hijab-wearing supermodel - is quitting fashion, saying the industry caused her to compromise her beliefs, and we investigate the trap of being 'first'. Dakota Johnson and Cara Delevingne are both launching sex toy companies, but are suspiciously coy about using their own products. Then it's on to a column by Dolly Alderton arguing that women should focus on having 'character', rather than being beautiful. Easier said than done? As always, please rate, review and subscribe.
