Marlin attack and 20-foot waves: Team finishes 3,000-mile race across the Atlantic in 36 days
A four-man team has completed an epic 36-day, 3,000-mile journey across the Atlantic in a rowboat, a trip that ran into two powerful storms, 20-foot waves, and a marlin that pierced a hole in the bottom of their craft. Dixon McDonald, who stayed with his parents in Palm Beach while training for the Talisker Whiskey Challenge, was joined by three British teammates as they set off Dec. 12 from the Canary Islands off Spain to the finish line in Antigua and Barbuda. The team, which came in third overall when it arrived Jan. 17, raised more than $250,000 in charity for Achilles International, the Brian Cross Memorial Trust, the Not Forgotten Association, and the Pelorus Foundation.
