The Problem with Rich-People Skin
Play episode · 34 min

In a pandemic tale familiar to many, Mia has become obsessed with putting skincare on her face and she might have gone too far. So, why are skin products and serums having SUCH a moment?

Plus, what is 'grief porn' and why are we so obsessed with it? Jessie reflects on the death of Lisa Curry and Grant Kenny’s 33-year-old daughter, Jaimi, and the fact that paparazzi images from her funeral were published online, going against the wishes of Jaimi's family.

And the Sydney private school muck up day that everyone is talking about...

Jessie wants everyone to read Jane Harper's new book, The Survivors.

Hosts: Mia Freedman, Holly Wainwright, and Jessie Stephens

Producer: Elissa Ratliff and Emma Gillespie

Parenting, Polyamory & Surviving A Refugee Camp
Pauline Nguyen has lived a very big life.  When she was 3 years old her family left Vietnam by boat. They spent six days on the South China Sea and arrived at a Thai Refugee camp where they lived for a year, before settling in Australia.  Once in Australia, however, things weren’t easy for the Nguyen kids, and Pauline fled home when she was a teenager.  These days, Pauline is an award winning author, spiritual entrepreneur and co-founder of Sydney's Red Lantern restaurant. And in this episode of No Filter, she talks to Mia Freedman about everything from being in a polyamorous relationship to running away from home at 17 to breaking the cycle of abuse with her own children... #146: Kim’s Birthday, Fashion at 40, Seduced
After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time. Joking! We just emerged from months of lockdown to record Bang On face to face, IRL! And it’s like one million private island birthdays rolled into one. We talk about the tone deaf socials post from KKW that has the world’s meme machine ticking over. Bowie's iconic song Fashion turns 40 and the sale of iconic venue Festival Hall has us reminiscing about the live music memories that shaped who we would become, and what the future holds for those gigs (under God’s eye). Myf makes Zan’s day by banging on about a new TV series on cults, while Zan’s been watching the Borat sequel.   Show notes: The Bunnings Guy: Kim’s private island birthday: Festival Hall sold: David Bowie’s Fashion at 40: Fyre Festival’s Billy McFarland put in solitary for a podcast: Seduced: Inside the NXIVM Cult: Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Email us:   Bang On is recorded on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. We pay our respects to elders past, present, and emerging. We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Australians and Traditional Custodians of the land where we live, work, and learn.

Tania Esteve Head - the fake 9/11 survivor
Her story was one of triumph over trauma. When planes flew into the World Trade Centre twin towers on September 11, Tania Head was on the floor where the plane hit. She somehow made it out, only to still be at ground zero when the tower collapsed. Waking up in hospital with horrific injuries, she is told that her fiancé who was in the other tower, has died. She goes on to become president of the World Trade Centre Survivor’s Network, and is the public face of those who made it out.  One little problem - she had never even been to the World Trade Centre. She wasn’t even in the country on 9/11. IT WAS ALL A LIE.  So how does a woman who made up her entire story of survival end up president of the damn Survivor’s Network? And what happened when they found out she’d been faking it all along - that she was the woman who wasn’t there? We give you Just The Gist, but if you want more, there’s this: Watch the documentary The Woman Who Wasn't There: Read the book of The Woman Who Wasn’t There: Angelo Guglielmo explains how he came to make the film and write the book: David Dunlap’s 2007 article that revealed all of Tania’s lies: Documentary about the hoax from 2008 called The 9/11 Faker: RECCOS!
