Not All Nipples Are Created Equal
27 min

Two election wins over the weekend showed us two very different versions of politician's personal and family lives. Holly tells us about Jacinda Ardern’s landslide victory in New Zealand, the re-election of the ACT's Andrew Barr and Gladys's grim declaration about love.

Plus, Nipple Equality: Two Australian influencers have called out Instagram for a double standard when it comes to women baring breast on social media.

And, Leigh Campbell shares her wisdom when it comes to facials and answers the question many have wondered, "are they really worth it?"

Big Sister Hotline: Episode 40, Feat. ALEXANDRA COLLIER
I had an excellent conversation this week with ALEXANDRA COLLIER, a writer, theatre maker and sole mother by choice. Ally is one of the growing number of women choosing to become sole mothers through sperm donorship. She joined me to talk about motherhood, choices, the narratives we set for our own lives and the beauty we find in them, and why we need to separate maternal desires from our romantic ones.  From little sisters, we answer questions about always being considered the casual FWB and never the girlfriend; the feminist politics of cosmetic surgery and whether we should hide it from our friends; and how to rebuild a life and individual identity when you’ve spent decades in a relationship. Find Ally’s article here: Why I Chose To Be A Single Mum Find Tracie Morrissey’s article on emotional conquistadors here: The Emotional Conquistador is the New Sexual Conquistador Feedback/Question submission: Patreon: Instagram: **** (And remember, if you like the show then please consider rating and reviewing it!) **** Much thanks to the team at ROAR COLLECTIVE, who have taken on the task of editing this podcast each week! #150: Music Awards, Meghan Markle, Toast
It’s been a big week for music statues, with the ARIA Awards going down, and the Grammy nominations going up. Diversity on both fronts is on the rise, but The Weeknd ain’t happy. A great read on a new generation’s viewing of Diana’s “princess story” has us also reflecting on the shifting stories around cultural institutions, while an op-ed penned by The Duchess of Sussex shows she continues to do things her way. It’s our 150th episode too, so a good chance to introduce a new segment: Things We Don’t Understand. And Myf is pumped about a new US spin off series of Toast of London, while Zan is shoulder dancing in her seat to the new concert film American Utopia. Show notes: Sampa the Great performs at the ARIAs: Grammy nominations: The Weeknd accuses the Grammys of being corrupt: Young Women Are Watching Diana’s Story in the Crown with Horror: The Losses We Share: Period Poverty: Mystery Monolith: Johnny Rotten: American Utopia: Toast to America: Email us to Bang Back:   Bang On is produced by Double J. It is recorded on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. We pay our respects to elders past, present, and emerging. We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Australians and Traditional Custodians of the land where we live, work, and learn.

Did you know that some people choose a theme when it comes time to dig the Christmas decorations out of storage and deck the halls? Neither did I, but apparently it’s a thing and of course Em is the one who’s made me aware of this fantastical festive festooning fact. This year her theme is...something I would have never considered would be a Christmas decorating starting point, but that’s why we’re here, to celebrate the fact that Em’s seeing in Santa with a “Jason Momoa in a sparkly leotard” theme. You’ll find your confusion will probably dissipate if you check out the added visuals that complete the Christmas theming story on Em’s socials. Theme established, it’s on to Em and Michael talking his new TV show coming to the ABC in 2021, it’s called ‘The Newsreader’. The lead female character is a feisty ethnic woman fighting against the straight white male TV Executives who are trying to make her be something that she’s not. Apparently Michael reckons it’s definitely not based on Em in any way, it’s just not, he’s totes doesn’t know where he got the inspiration though which seems a teensy bit weird. Then we chat about Dan Andrews not running for Federal Politics, which Em and Michael just see as a challenge, it’s a long term goal for them, they’ll probably just need to talk to his wife and get him back on board. We then attempt to calmly express Em’s dismay at an Instagram post from some Melbourne socialite guy, who took time out to share a pic of his new girlfriend, and also shit all over his equally famous former wife in the caption. Em felt it was a misstep for him, she also failed at expressing that calmly, because it really struck a chord with her. There’s also questions about what goes into orchestrating the perfect crying selfie, is it all about the angles? Where should the tear placement be? Can you rock a snot bubble if you capture it in the light beautifully? You know, just normal, stock standard stuff, which then leads to Em confronting Michael on how he never likes any of her photos on Instagram. Basically once Em gently unlatches the restraining bolt on her rage beast, it’s very hard for her to focus, like she’s really distracted, you’ll hear it, so grab your headphones and see if you can pick the moment she let’s it off the chain. The 1904 Olympic Games - aka the one that was so bad they almost cancelled the Olympics forever
Imagine if Donald Trump and the dude who created Fyre Fest were allowed to run an Olympics - that’s the level of disaster that was going on at the 1904 St Louis Olympic Games. Nothing was organised, competitors almost died, and the US kept giving citizenship to foreign athletes who won so they could have the highest medal tally. Who cares if cars were literally driving through races? AMERICA WANTED TO WIN BIGLY. We give you just the gist, but if you want more, there’s this: Some fun articles to read about the Marathon:  This one in particular has some great photos:  And some articles about the Olympics as a whole:  One of many videos on YouTube about the Games:  For scale, check out how big the St Louis World’s Fair was in comparison to the Olympics:  The Conspirituality Podcast Jacob mentioned:  Send us your suGISTions!
